Chapter 12

Flashback

Jia can still remember that day when she met Miguel for the very first time.

It's just a normal day for her. Except that this is her first day in college.

This sucks for student-athletes. Number 1 rule is that you can't miss. You miss a class or training, you miss half of your life.

So even if your class starts at 7:30 in the morning and your training ends at 8:00, you need to juggle everything to fit in. Truly, 24 hours is not enough for Ateneans. Especially, Atenean athletes.

The first bell rang and Jia being new is still outside the room, running in the corridors. She doesn't care if some students look at her like she's crazy or if every step of hers echoes along the floor.

"Bel 313..." She whisper as she look at every room she pass.

"311..312..313!" She exclaimed as she saw it.

"Excuse me, are you from this class?" The professor got her attention as she get theirs when she shouted the room number.

"Uhm, English Lit?" She asked.

"Yes, I believe I am an English lit professor" Answered by the middle age man.

"Uh, sorry sir, I'm late, I got lost" She said as she stepped her foot inside the room.

"I got that a lot, where did you come from?" Asked by the prof.

"I came from Eliazo, sir" Answered by Jia.

"Ah, a dormer. Can you please give me a reason why are you late, of course beside from the reason you got lost" Hingi ng prof.

"Uhm, we had a training it ends by 8, but then I tried to leave early. If I know the room, I'll be here on time, sir" Sagot ni Jia.

"An athlete, you say? Well, goodluck, you'll gonna need it" Sabi pa ng prof.

She gave a piece of paper as a proof that she is enrolled to the class. And when the prof checked, he asked Jia to seat wherever she wants.

But it turns out the only empty seat is at the back with a man wearing the hood of his jacket.

'Weird naman neto'

"Ji, ano ba yan, first day mo pa lang late ka na" Komento nung nasa harap niya.

Jia's eyes widened when she saw who spoke, one of her best friend, her childhood friend who lives across the street.

"Dom! Sabi na hihingin ko sched mo eh! Miss you!" Sabi ni Jia at halos hatakin ang babaeng nasa harap niya kungdi lang nagsasalita ang prof nila.

"And, yeah, nanibago kasi ako, first day of class, tapos training pa" Dagdag niya.

"Well, you better juggle things better, or else, patay ka, mukhang strict etong prof na to" Sagot ni Dom.

The prof stopped talking and look around, probably looking who is talking kaya naman nanahimik silang dalawa at natawa na lang.

Both agreed they will be eating lunch together and catch up, as Jia is really busy this past summer break adjusting and of course, training.

After the class, luckily, both doesn't have a class, so dumeretso na sila sa JSEC.

In the middle of their conversation, napansin ni Jia na may umupo sa table sa harap niya. 

Na realize niya na yung taong iyon ay yung tao palang katabi niya kanina na naka hoodie. 

"Kilala mo ba yun?" Tanong ni Jia ng mahina.
