This was it. I was going to die. My life was officially over. Talia Morrison only 17 years old when her life tragically —

"Ms Morrison? Could you please answer the question."

Maybe I exaggerated a little. But we were in English and I definitely did not read the book we were supposed to read over the summer. I mean, it's summer for a reason? Why should I waste it doing more school! Isn't that the whole point of summer? To give us a break?

"Um yeah it's..."

"The mom, she was the one who murdered the husband"

I look to my left to see a boy I've never seen before. He just saved my life.

"Thank you Mr Wright"

My English teacher, Mrs. Thompson, gave me a stern look but then returned back to her lesson without questioning me. Thank god.

I look over to the boy to my left and poke him with the back of my pencil. He turns his head in my direction.

"Thanks"

I mouth to him.

"Talia, right?"

He whispers. I nod but frown when I realize I don't know his name.

"Cole"

He says. I smile.

"Nice to meet you, and thanks again"

I say and he nods his head.

We both turn back to the front where Mrs. Thompson continues to drone on about the book that I didn't read. I still don't even know the title.

After several minutes which felt like hours, the period bell rang and students began to pack up. I couldn't wait to get out of here. I swung my bag over my shoulder and swiped up my textbooks and made a bee line for the door. I safely made it out into the hall without Mrs. Thompson stopping me.

"Hey! Wait up"

I stop in my tracks and turn around to the familiar voice.

"Hey Cole"

He catches up to me slightly out of breath. I laugh lightly.

"Damn, you walk fast"

I smile and we continue walking in the direction of my locker.

"So I've been told"

I say, thinking back to thus multiple times I've heard that from Laur and Wes. I stop at my locker and turn the dial, opening it.

"I'm guessing you didn't read the book?"

I shake my head and laugh.

"No way"

He chuckles and leans against the locker next to me.

"How come I haven't seen you around much before?"

I ask questioningly. After four years in this place I think I would recognize him.

"I just transferred for senior year. I moved here this summer from Miami"

I raise an eyebrow.

"Usually when people move it's to Miami not away from it"

I say laughing.

"How'd you know my name then?"

He looks at me.

"It's kind of all over the papers and news"

I mentally face palm myself. Of course it is.

"Right, right. Almost forgot about that small detail"
