Hopefully.

"Dan..." A familiar voice called.

Dan felt the voice slowly bring him back to concoiusness, back to reality. Dan fluttered his eyes open. Putting a a face to the voice that awoke him. Sunlight burned Dan's eyes, he let out a involuntary groan. He closed his eyes and re-opened them, blinking a couple times to refocus hus vision to find Phil sitting on his bed.

"Phil...." Dan trailed off tiredly looking to his right to check the time. "It's early eight." Dan complained. Half-expecting a snarky, sarcastic, or random comment from Phil, but Phil's face remained emotionless.

"Dan." Phil called him seriously.  Dan's eyes widened, Dan realized Phiil had bad news, and Dan was terrified. "Today is-"" Phil nearly choked on the last couple words. He felt a lump in his throat as he finished the sentence. "Today is Emiily's funeral." Neither Phil or Dan changed their facial expressions. Instead Dan and Phil just staredat eachother. Dan slightly nodded his head, unoticable; almost.

Phil stood up. "Get dressed, and I'll see you down stairs, I guess..." Phil finished awkwawrdly walking out. Again, Dan nodded slightly.

Dan picked up his suit, he remembered getting it. And the panic attack... Dan cringed, smacking his head as if he was trying to knock the memory out of his head. Dan disapporived of himself, shaking his head as he got dressed and headed down stairs. Trying not to think about how three or four weeks ago Dan was shopping with Phil for this exact suit, for this exact day.

"Dan." Phil called Dan, catching him on his last step down the stairs. "Are you going to beokay for...it?" Phil asked.

Dan knew what he wastalking about. Was Dan going to have a panic attack. "No." Dan croaked, his voice was still weak because he was still tired.

"Are you sure?" Phil asked concerned.

"Yes." Dan snapped.

Phil raised his brows surprised, and stepped backwards, ever so slightly hurt.

Dan exhaled."I'm sorry Phil. I know you're just worried it's just-" Dan rubbed his face, trying not to notice the tears forming.

"Hey it's okay." Phil comforted Dan, hugging Dan into a hug for a couple minutes.  " You don't have to be strong today." Phil whispered.

Strong.

Funny word. Dan has tried to be strong and he's this bad, so how nad is he gonna be if he let' s go? Dan forced a smile, Phil let go and put on converse. Whixh reminded Dan of that night.

Emily was beautiful.
She wore a beautiful dress
She was perfect
She wantedme to dance with her
We sang...

"Dan." Phil called Dan, snapping Dan ou of his trance.

"Yeah?"

"it's time to go."

Dan threw on his converse and ran out the door to a black converse and ran out the door. A yellow taxi was waiting for them, and they each ckimbed inside. Dan fidgeted with his fingers, trying not to think, if possible; breathe. He walked the door and followed Phil to the Uber car.

Dan and Phil sat as far as they could away from each other, trying to keep their distance; careful not to get too close.

Dan turned his head to the Uber driver. It was a young girl, late twenties at the most. Which was really young for a driver as far as Dan knew.

She turns to them

Awkward conversation time.

Dan groaned inside his head.

"So. Where are you two goin'?" She asked.

Dan and Phil looked at each other and looked down. Worried that if one of them said it, it would become too real. Phil opened his mouth to speak and Dan plugged his ears. He recited any lyrics he knew inside his he's and waited until Phil closed his mouth again.

But hw still heard. Only Phil was louder than Dan's head.

"Dan.." Phil trailed off with a hint of concern in his voice.

Dan shook his head, realizing a tear fell out of his eye. The tear was hot, burning his flesh and the leaving the trail left behind cool woth relief.

Phil reached over and covered Dan's hand. To me him know he wasn't alone, not in this, not ever, never again. Dan smiled, suprised at the gesture. He wa so used of dealing with everything alone.

"Are you too..." The girl asked breaking the silence.

Dan saw Phil's eyes widened, and he felt his cheeks get hot; he was blushing. Which lead her to:

"Don't worry I'm not like that!" She tried to reassure them.

Dan felt a rush of cool air flow onto Dan's hand, Phil had taken his hand off. This made Dan sad, and he wasn't quite a
sure why.

"No! No! We're not! It's not-um like that." Phil rushed. The girl came to a stop att he red light and turned around.

"Really?" She asked suprised. She then shrugged. "Sorry..." she trailed off seeming to be a bit humiliated.

"It's fine." Dan smiled. She nodded and awkward silence filled the air. Dan felt as if someone was watching him. He pulled out his phone and saw a message set from Phil, a couple seconds ago.

Phil: Y do u think she thought we were together?

Dan: 1. Get a dictionary
2. Look at our suits!! You held my hand.

Dan felt his cheeks heat up as he typed the last part of the message.

The hell is going on?

Phil: 1. No.
2. Yeah I guess I can see it.

See what?
See us?
See how she thought?

These questions swirled around Dan's head.

Seriously.
Stop.
Everyone hates you.
Phil just hates you a little less.
Don't get the work get the wrong idea.
Don't be an idiot.

Dan nodded internally. It was right. He was right.

Dan saw Phil relax in his seat, moving almost an inch closer to Dan, Dan did the same. It was awkward, and weird for both of them.

But Dan's head had already moved on, thinking. Repeating the same question over and over.

Why couldn't it be me instead of Emily
