"I'm sorry Phil." Dan told him, avoiding his eyes on purpose. Pictures flashed triugh Dan's head of Phil's face falling, the hope being crushed from Phil's eyes, the shock that would hold his body captive.

"W-What?" Phil asked surprised.

"I'm sorry Phil-"

"No. You already said that." Phil's bitter words cut through Dan's words like a knife, except instead of blood, only fear poured out of Dan.

"I can't. I just can't." Dan tried to think of the reasons he had gathered of why he said no, but they all seemed to have disappeared. Like they were never there in the first place.

Dan heard Phil exhale, not particularly out of annoyance or frustration, like it was... sympathy.

"Okay. Okay." Phil no longer sounded upset, disappointed, or surprised, just... like his regular voice.

"Hm?" Dan asked, getting caught off guard looking up at Phil.

"Look you don't want to get the house, we've looked through it already, lets go. Best not to waste time." Phil smiled heading down the stairs. Relief spread throughout him and he followed Phil down.

Maybe we'll look at this house a second time.

Dan hoped.

"Close the door." Phil reminded Dan. The cool air was refreshing to the both of them. Dan stepped out enjoying the weather for once. Immediately when Dan stepped out of the house, guilt filled every sense and regret flooded his system. Dan knew what the was. Slowly he started to close the door, the guilt and regret multiplying causing pain.

"Phil!" Dan heard himself call out.

"Yes?" Phil answered turning around to meet Dan face to face.

"Let's get the house." The words had slipped out of his mouth before he could process what he was going to say. None the less, a broad smile crept over Dan's face.

Phil also smiled nearly screaming "YES!"

"Sh!" Dan scolded bringing his finger to his lips then pointing to the neighboring apartments around them."

"Oh... right." Phil mumbled.

Dan laughed. "Why did I agree to this?" Dan thought out loud.

"Reverse Psychology." Phil explained with a smirk.

Dan rolled his eyes. "Your an asshole." Dan told Phil. Phil smiled, proud. "You're clever," Dan complimented. "But you're an asshole."

"I know." Phil walked back to the car. Dan groaned. "What now?" Phil asked.

"There's going to be so much paperwork." Dan muttered.

"Yep. And I think I'll leave all of that fun stuff to you." Phil responded.

"Never mind. I don't want to move in with you." Dan commented.

Phil laughed hard, not as hard before, but pretty close. Dan chuckled, realizing there were no dark thoughts to be heard.

Am I happy?

Dan asked, he looked inside himself.

No. Still empty, still want to die.

And Dan did what he always did,he smiled through the pain, and of course, Phil noticed. But no words were said this time, there wasn't anything Phil could do this time.
