Ethan's pov.

It hurt, I had to admit that. But I couldn't be with her, she is not my type. Although my wolf Adan disagrees and won't talk to me right now, it had to be done. I don't regret doing it either.

I overhear someone talking with my dad, the alpha.

"You're sure she is gone?"

"I'm afraid so. She left a note and part of it is for you."

I play it cool as I walk into the room and ask what's going on. My dad says that one of the pack members have left. I ask who and why they would leave. He tells me it was Ruby who left and shows me the note. I feel a little guilty, thinking that if I hadn't rejected her maybe she wouldn't have left. But that guilt soon goes away and is replaced with anger.

"Why would she just leave her pack like this, does she have no respect?!"

"Son, stop yelling, she left because she felt like she didn't belong. Why does it bother you so much?"

"It just seems like she didn't give things enough time to get better and instead just left, leaving only a note. Besides, how did she even sneak past the patrols so easily?"

"She knew when they shifted so she probably just took the chance."

I walk off, not knowing how to feel or what to think. Then all of the sudden Adan says to chase her and bring her back. No. If she wants to run off, let her. She said not to look for her so we are just going to leave her alone. Besides I have already rejected her and she accepted it. Anyway, she is probably miles away where we will never see her again, hopefully.

If I ever see her again it will be too soon.

As I am walking around the next day Adan still won't talk to me, and even worse is that I was challenged today for the alpha's position at sunset. I don't know what to do because Adan won't talk to me and I'm going to need him for the fight or I'm going to have to forfeit the position to the other male. I don't understand why Adan doesn't want to defend his soon-to-be-alpha position. I look around for my dad and when I find him I ask to talk in private for a minute.

I ask if his wolf ever got so mad at him that he wouldn't talk to him. He says no and asks why, and I tell him that Adan won't talk to me and I need him for the fight at sunset or I'm going to have to forfeit the position. Then he asks what I did to make him so mad, and before I could control Adan he comes out.

"Ethan?"

"Nope, guess again."

"Adan?"

"Yeah."

"Why are you so angry?"

"Well since Ethan wasn't going to tell you the truth I will."

Before I can stop him, Adan explains the situation. Just as he is about to finish I finally gain back control. But it's too late.

"So Ethan, your wolf just explained things for me, what do you have to say for yourself?"

"That I still don't regret anything." I turn around angrily. "Now if you will excuse me I have a fight to go to."
