Ruby’s pov.

I had been running for what seemed like forever. It was also extra tiring carrying the bag between my teeth. I eventually collapse, and try to get back up but fail. It hurt so much I must have fallen asleep for a few minutes.

After I wake, all of a sudden I hear growls and find myself surrounded by four other wolves. Just great. One of them shifts and comes back with a pair of shorts on. "What are you doing on my territory!?" he demands. I growl and look around warily. Sensing my apprehension, he tells his wolves to let me shift in the bush.

After I come back I speak up, "I swear I didn't know this land belonged to anyone, I will leave quickly as I can, I was just passing through."

"I'm afraid I can't just let you go, I need to investigate and ask you more questions, please come willingly so I don't have to hurt you."

I look around at the wolves; I don't know how well they are trained so I guess I will have to go. "Fine, but one false move and I will run." I pick up my bag and follow him, while also being closely monitored by the other wolves.

As we reach his pack house he tells his wolves to shift back and go home, that he will take it from here. He leads me to a room with a big desk and a black chair behind it, with one white chair in front of it. "Please, have a seat," he says. I sit down carefully in the white chair. "So which pack are you from?"

"What?"

"Come on, I know you're not a rogue, so which pack did you leave?"

I think for a second, I can't really refuse to tell. "Shadow Death Pack," I say.

He suddenly looks very curious. "Why would you leave that pack?"

"Because they didn't treat me like part of their pack; my own mate from the pack rejected me, my parents pretended I didn't exist, and I didn't have any friends."

He notices that I have become upset and that he might be pushing a little too much. "So they didn't care that they lost a member of their pack?" he continues gently.

"They didn't even notice where I was or what I was doing most of time. The only time people noticed me was when I saved the beta’s life."

*Flashback*

"Beta, look out!" I see the beta about to be killed by the multiple rogues on top of him. I run faster than I had ever ran before and knock all the rogues off of him in one fell sweep. I fight them all at once and then once they see they can’t defeat me they run. I chase them to make sure that they left.

"Thanks Ruby," I hear the Beta say once I come back to check on them.

"I was doing what I should: protecting the pack," I answer.

For the rest of the day people would walk up to me and talk about how cool I was, but after a day maybe two everyone goes back to ignoring me again.

*End flashback*

"Sorry to hear that, would you like to join my pack? The Silent Warriors?"

I start thinking about having an actual pack that cares about me and how nice that would be. "If you are serious about that offer, then yes I would like to join."

"Do you know what to say?"

"Yes." I stand. "I, Ruby Black, promise to protect, serve, and respect my new alpha." All of a sudden I feel a snap of pain as the bond between me and my old pack breaks, but then I feel a new and stronger pull in my heart.

"Welcome to the pack."

"Thank you."

"No problem, now go eat and rest, I'm sure you are hungry and tired from traveling so much."

I get up and go to the kitchen to fix myself a small bite, then go to the room he quickly sets up for me in the meantime. As soon as I hit the bed I’m asleep, and for the first time in a long time I don’t need my medicine to help.
