Near Fort Omaha
7th Army Division; Delta Battalion
It had been awhile before I was finally given any orders. My squad was brought to the base that was just outside the Dune Sea.
The Xylvanians had been bombing us and attacking forts along the coast of the Dune Sea.
The Xers were planning to attack the coast and the border with them in an attempt to stretch are forces. They had captured a few forts, by most of the time the Xers were pushed back.
Ever sense the war escalated to include the Xylvanians many soldiers began referring to them as Xers. It was a sort of slang term to insult them. Plus it was easier and shorter to say. I chuckled at that thought.
However me and my squad finally had orders.
My orders were to protect Fort Omaha which is on the list of Costal Forts in the Dune Sea and the next likely target for the Xylvanians.
So, now I was stuck in a recon headed to my next assignment.
Our intelligence squads suggested this would be there biggest assault on a Fort yet.
"Can't this recon go any faster." I asked looking at the driver. "Fine I'll go faster." said the driver. He then slammed his right foot on the gas and the recon took of down the road.
He then turned it right past the wall of rock and down the road towards Fort Omaha.
I could see that the base was under attack by and small Xylvanian strike force. "Get a move on." I ordered the driver. He then drove down the hill towards the enemy light tank.
I saw the tank move its turret towards us.
Then it fired a shell. I immediately jumped off the recon and into the sand of the beach. I rolled to a rock and I saw the tank explode. The recon was still in one piece.
'That was anti climatic.' I though to myself as I stood up and brushed the sand off.
"Everyone regroup in the base." I shouted. I entered to see what soldiers I had. I had 10 Infantry, 3 assault soldiers, 3 bazooka soldiers, 2 mobile artillery units and 1 heavy recon.
"Ok I want the artillery to move on the ridges on the right and left." I ordered. The artillery then moved away to there assignments.
"I want 2 guys to go in the MG Bunkers near the fort." I ordered. 2 infantry soldiers then went to the bunkers. "Now I want the recon to go to the Western Entrance of the fort." I said as the recon began to move slowly.
"Now my assault and bazooka soldiers can come with me and my squad to the other defenses along the beach." I said as I walked out to the beach.
The beach was large and had plenty of defenses and cover for us to use. "Alright I want my assault soldiers here so, that they can act as mobile machine guns and move up and down this area." I finished giving my order and I walked to my remaining men.
"I want the infantry to protect the base" I said. The men then moved into the base and took up defensive positions. I turned to my squad. "Now follow me." I ordered.
We moved down the beach. We walked down a hill to another set of defenses below. It was much like the defenses at the top of the hill with barbed wire in front of it with sandbags on each side.
"Ok I want Joe and Derek to go on the left side to that sandbag and then I want Donavan and Miles to go to the right" I ordered. They quickly moved to their positions and set up their LMG's that we were provided with.
