Chapter 15: Hermans Hero's

I was sitting in the T-Copter as it landed on Cocoanut Island. The ramp lowers and my battalion left the T-Copter. I then turned to my battalion to give them my plan.
I was thinking a lot about Derek and how he was dead now. "You alright sir" asked Joe "Yeah I'm fine" I said. Derek's death had been haunting me. I just knew that no one from my squad could die.
If I wanted to make thought the war I had to help them survive at all costs.
General Herman himself was over seeing this mission and had given me 6 infantry men, 5 flame soldiers, 5 mortar soldiers and 1 heavy recon.
The Solar Empire had tried to attack the island but, they were captured by the Xylvanians. The Coral Atolls belonged to the Solar Empire. The Xers had captured all the islands in the area.
Cocoanut Island had several Xylvanian targets that had to be destroyed if we were to win sense this island supplied the Xylvanian soldiers in the Coral Atolls.
On the island was A Communications Post, A Fuel Refinery and a Munitions Dump. All of these posts were fortified with MG nest and towers and plenty of infantry, Recon's and gunships.
There were anti-air POW's at the Communications Post. Bazooka soldiers at the Fuel Refinery and Solar Empire POW's at the Munitions Dump.
I had to free the prisoners sense they could help a lot with my objectives. The current leader of the Solar Empire Empress Lei-Qo said that a Grady shadow would fill the world if we lost the Coral Atolls campaign.
"The plan today is to attack the enemy posts and take out there weapons" I said. "First were gonna destroy the Communications Post and free the prisoners there" I said. "Then we will attack the Fuel Refinery and free the prisoners there" I said.
"Finally we attack the Munitions dump and rescue the Solar Empire prisoners" I said. "After that've have to fight are way to the helipad and get picked up by a Frontier T-Copter" I said.
The Solar Soldiers were gonna stay on that part of the island until the Frontier and Solar soldiers advanced from the South. The Tundrans said that they would only help if they had to sense they were still mopping up in the Dune Sea.
I then looked forward and walked oyt of the Forrest toward the bridge that lead over the Mango River to the Communications Post.
As I turned the corner I saw four sandbags placed along the road. Behind each sand bag was a infantry soldier and a to rocket soldier.
"Ok I want the mortar soldiers to flank left and the flame soldiers to flank right and my rifle men will split up and go with them" I said. "What about us" asked Miles.
"Were going right up the middle with the heavy recon" I said turning away. My men then got into position and waited for my signal. "Attack" I screamed getting u from my prone position and running up the middle.
The heavy recon drove ahead to distract them while we shot at then while running.
Because of are distraction my other men went undetected and were killed with ease. We regroup just ahead of the sandbag position.
"Alright just over this hill is the Communications post" I said pointing at the top of the hill. I void see the Radar Tower just over the hill.
I ran up the hill. I reached the top of the hill and saw a sandbag position with 2 rocket soldiers. Behind them was the Communications Post. It was surrounded by a Wooden Fence.
Behind the rocket soldiers was a huge boulder.
"Take them out" I shouted pointing to the rocket soldiers. We quickly attacked without mercy. I shoot down a rocket soldier who had charged me.
I swung up assault rifle like a club and hit him in the face. He swung to the let and fell to the floor dying. I aimed my gun at another rocket soldier and I gunned him down.
I looked up and saw a MG Nest moving its gun towards me. "Take cover" I shouted jumping behind the sandbag. The mortar soldiers took cover near the Nest.
The bullets roared overhead for awhile. "Take that Nest out" I yelled over the bullets.
The mortar soldiers then jumped out from cover and opened fire. The mortar soldiers then fired and destroyed the Nest.
My men regrouped and we ran into the base firing at any Xer in sight.
We quickly killed most of the Xylvanians. I saw the Anti-Air vets over in the barbed wire camp.
"Free those prisoners" I cried pointing at the barbs wire. Donavan quickly ran over to the barbed wire and cut it apart freeing the anti-air soldiers.
"Gunships inbound" cried Joe. "You know what to do" I said to the anti-air soldiers. "We do" said one of the soldiers. They then proceeded to destroy the first gunship.
The second one continued to advance quickly.
The anti-air soldiers fired and the gunship was hit in the back propeller and began to spin out of control. It then spun over head and crashed into the Communications Tower.
Soon the tower was collapsing. It collapsed and was destroyed. All the communications between the Xylvanians was now cut.
Then 2 more gunships were flying towards us now.
The anti-air soldiers reacted quickly by shooting down the first gunship.
The second gunships flew overhead and turned around firing its missiles. The anti-air soldiers locked into it and fired. The gunship was hit and plummeted to the ground.
Then suddenly bullets began to come out of nowhere. I saw that it was coming from another MG Nest.
I quickly changed to my grenade launcher aimed and fired. The grenade flew towards the Nest and exploded. The Nest was destroyed and we regrouped at the Northern entrance.
"Alright now that the Communications Post has been destroyed and captured we need to capture the Fuel Refinery" I said.
I started walking along the road that lead to the Fuel Refinery. As we got close I stopped to inspect the Refineries defenses.
I saw plenty of defenses.
From are angle I could see two gunships circling around the base and several MG Towers.
I ran over to Zach. "Can you hit that guy in the MG Tower" I asked pointing to the top of the tower. "I think I can manage" said Zach aiming down his scope.
He carefully moved the sight to the Xylvanian who was now pulling out a cigarette. He light the cigarette.
Zach then fired. The shot flew a Ross the distance and hit the Xer right in the face. The Xylvanian then fell forward and hot the ground with a loud thud.
"Alright maggots lets take this Refinery" I ordered running ahead of my men to the Refinery.
I ran up to the gate and saw fuel tanks, gunships, heavy Recon's and a lot of infantry. As I walked in every Xer turned to look at me.
"I hope I'm not late" I said jokingly All the Xylvanians opened fire immediately. I jumped to the right taking cover behind the wooden wall that surrounded the base.
Miles ran up to me and crouched next to me. "Got a plan" asked Miles. "Of course not" I said. "And by the way that was my plan" I said. "Really are you crazy" screamed Miles "Kind of" I replied.
"No but, seriously to you have a plan" asked Miles. I was sort of ignoring him sense I saw a MG Tower above us. "I have a plan now" I said still looking up at the MG. "Follow me" I said to Miles.
We then crept towards the entrance.
"Attack" I yelled as I entered the base firing my assault rifle. I shot down a Xer and turned right, towards the MG Tower. Miles was right behind me the whole time.
We reached the MG and paused for a moment to catch are breath. "Alright I want you to shoot the gunner while I climb up the ladder" I said. Miles shook his head a backed up a step.
He raised his gun and aimed at the gunner while I began to climb up the ladder.
I was about half way up the ladder when Miles shot the gunner at the top of the tower.
The gunner fell forward and his body was leaning over the edge if the tower wall. I reached the too of pushed the dead Xer over the wall and he fell to the ground.
I then turned to see the battle field.
I saw that my men were advancing towards the Fuel Tanks and gunships. I also saw a group of Heavy Recon's moving into attack position.
I then climbed down and me and Miles moved along the wall behind a building. As we turned the corner I saw the Bazooka soldiers being held captive.
I ran over to the barbed wire trying to figure out how to cut it.
Miles then ran up and started to cut the wire with his knife. I quickly pulled out my knife and did the same.
As we freed the soldiers a few Xers ran up and started to shoot at us. I quickly stopped cutting the wire and threw my knife at one of the Xylvanians.
I then pulled out my pistol and shot the other. I went over and pulled my knife from the fallen Xer. Blood spilled out of the wound after I pulled the knife out.
I went back over to Miles who was with the now freed Bazooka soldiers.
"Where are your weapons" I asked. One of the soldiers pointed to the small building we used as cover. "Go get them and meet us back here" I said.
They then followed my ordered exactly. "Alright follow me" I said as the last of the soldiers returned.
They then followed me over to the fighting that was taking place.
My men were falling back because of the heavy Recon's that were bearing down on them. "Go take out those Recon's" I said
The bazooka soldiers then attacked the Recon's while I gathered the rest of my men. "What now sir" asked Joe. "Ok I want the anti-air vets and the heavy recon to attack the gunships" I ordered.
The anti-air soldiers along with the heavy recon then began there attack.
"Now the rest of you follow me" I said. I had noticed that a large group of infantry was moving on are right flank.
I ran over to the Fuel Tanks which were surrounded now by Xylvanian infantry. "Fall back to the flag" I shouted. Many of my men fell back to the defenses around the flag pole.
The defenses included MG nests and sandbag positions.
"Hold your ground" I said. The Xers were advancing slowly walking towards us guns at there hips.
As they advanced I noticed on the ends if there assault rifles were bayonets. "If you have bayonets fix them now" I ordered. Only a few pulled out a bayonet.
I grabbed my knife and attached it to the end of my gun.
The Xylvanians were now at least 10 feet away.
"I want all the MG's to open fire" I shouted. The MG's opened fire and there barrage lasted about a minute. "Why did you stop" I asked. "Out of ammo sir" replied one soldier.
The rest nodded.
"Well then" I said. I noticed that the Xers were inside the Fuel Tank area. I then took and deep breath.
"CHARGE" I screamed jumping over the sandbag and running the Xylvanias knife at the ready.
I rushed forward and stabbed a Xylvanian in the gut. As I pulled the knife out he spit out done blood and fell to the ground. I then aimed at another Xer and shot him.
Then one really stupid Xer swung his rifle at me. I moved to dodge it and shot him in the face. I then looked over and saw that the other Xylvanians were dead.
"Regroup at the southern entrance" I shouted. I walked to the southern entrance and regrouped with all of my Battalion.
I saw that the heavy Recon's and the gunships were destroyed. "Alright lets take that Munitions Dump" I said waking to the front of my men and walking down the road to the Munitions Dump.
As we approached the base wall I saw an MG Tower guarding the entrance.
"Zach you know what to do" I said stilling staring at the Tower. Zach then aimed his sniper and fired. The Xer fell from the Tower to the floor.
"Alright lets move up" I said staring to jog towards the base. As I reached the entrance I saw 3 Light Tanks approaching fast. "Take out those tanks" I yelled hitting the ground.
The bazooka and mortar soldiers quickly dispatched the first tank without any problems.
The second tank however continued forward.
The bazooka and mortar soldiers reloaded quickly fired destroying the second tank.
Instead of the third tank coming forward it started to back up.
"Lets keep on going" I shouted as I ran through the gate and into the base. As I entered the base I saw the stock pile of weapons, ammo and explosives in the center of the base.
As I was staring at the Munitions I forgot about the last Light Tank.
The light was now coming right at be its machine guns blazing. I quickly jumped behind a nearby sandbag for cover.
Suddenly I heard the sound of a tank firing and closed my eyes. A few minutes later on opened one eye and saw I was alive.
I opened my other eye and stood. I saw that the tank was a pile of metal and fire.
I also noticed that the captive Solar Empire soldiers had freed themselves and were using there Heavy Tank very strategically.
As the rest of the Xers fled the base I walked over to my battalion who was spread out along the eastern end of the base.
Donavan and the rest if my squad were laughing amongst themselves and talking about there "victory".
"You now that we still need to get to the exfil point" I said. "Yeah we know" said Joe. "C'mon Eryk just chill" said Donavan.
I then reached across the sandbag and grabbed his shirt collar. "Just chill... Just chill" I said. Donavan swallowed hard. "How can I just chill when I have a duty to for fill" I said throwing him back.
I turned around and saw a lot of Xylvanian infantry and armor headed are way.
"Now why don't you get ready for battle" I shouted. Everyone quickly got into position and waited for the Xylvanian attack.
I got behind the sandbag with my squad and waited as the Xers got into 2 groups.
The first group charged as soon as they were ready.
"Hold your ground" I said as they started to sprint at us. Soon they were right on top off us. "Open fire" I shouted.
The entire battalion opened fire all at once. I quickly shot down 2 Xers.
The first attack group didn't really do much. But, soon the second group was attacking. As they got closer I heard then shouting about me.
"Look I see there leader" shouted one Xer. "Yeah lets kill him" shouted another. Suddenly I realized that my squad had left the position.
I was then surrounded by 5 Xylvanian grunts. They all had there rifles pointed at me.
"Only 5 guys; this is a disgrace" I said chuckling. "Put down your weapons" said one soldier. "If you say so" I said putting my assault rifle and pistol in the ground.
"Your knife" said the soldier. "What knife" I said trying to seem confused. "You know what knife" said the soldier. "You mean this knife" I said pulling out my knife.
"Now why don't all of you f**kers get the f**k out of here" I said pointing my knife at them. "Well that isn't gonna happen" said the Xer. "Why the hell not" I said pointing my knife at him.
"Why well because my superior wants your head" said the Xer. "Is that superior Commander Waffen" I asked. "Yes it is" said the Xer. "Well that all needed to hear" I said.
I then grabbed his shirt collar and pulled him towards me. I quickly put him in front of me with the knife at his neck.
"Take another step and this piece of shit gets it right in the eye" I said.
Suddenly the Xylvanian on my left lunged at me. I quickly slit the Xers throat and pushed him into the other one.
The other 3 were a little shocked.
I quickly stabbed the Xer on my right.
I then flipped the blade so, I was holding the blade. I then threw it at the next Xer.
It hit him right in the head and he slowly fell to the ground.
The final Xylvanian started to run away.
"You son of a bitch" I said under my breath as I started to chase after him. I caught up with him quickly and tackled him to the ground.
I got and took his assault rifle and aimed it at his legs. "What the hell" shouted the Xer. "What the hell nothing this is war" I said moving the assault rifle to his head and firing.
I then stood over him for a moment and then threw his assault rifle to the ground and going over to get my weapons.
First I pulled the knife out of the one Xers head. I then put it away. Finally I grabbed my guns and out my pistol in its holster.
I went over and joined my men.
"Now lets get a move on" I said walking away from my squad towards the Northern Entrance.
As we were about to leave I
remembered the Munitions.
I ran up the Munitions Dump and pulled out a grenade. I then flipped the switch and pulled the pin.
I immediately threw the grenade at the pile of weapons. I then walked away as the Munitions exploded. I also heard fireworks going off behind me.
"Happy Xylvania Day" I said as I walked past my squad out of the base.
As I walked the Solar Captain stopped me. "So, I'm Captain A-Qira" said the Captain. "Well Captain what's your plan" I asked.
"Well we were gonna take the helipad nearby but, I want to know your plan" said A-Qira "Actually we planned to take the helipad for are extraction" I said. "Perfect now lets get a move on" said A-Qira!
We then began to march down the hill. Soon we reached a large canyon with a bridge across it at the top.
We started to walked through to the canyon when from the bridge a Xylvanian started shooting at us.
"Hold your fire asshole" I shouted. "Why should I" cried the soldier. "Because your completely out numbered" I said.
"That doesn't mean anything" yelled the Xer. "Actually to does" I said. "Well I could call my friends over" he said.
"That's not gonna happen" shouted Zach. As I was trying to negotiate Zach was waiting for the right moment to shoot.
"Don't do it Zach I have a plan" I said. "You a plan that's a joke within itself" said Zach. After a long pause he fired. He hit the Xer and he started to fall towards the earth.
He hit the ground and his blood and guts shoot out everywhere.
I immediately grabbed Zach's sniper and hit him in the stomach. "F**ken bitch" he said as he fell the the
ground.
I then threw his sniper near him and started walk away.
My men followed close behind. As we exited the canyon I saw the bridge that lead over the river to the helipad.
Beyond that was a large Forrest.
As we got up near the bridge I stopped. "Alright here's the plan the Solar Troops are gonna go along the right side of the bridge and me and my men will take the left" I said
"And by the way take out those MG Towers and once your on the other side eliminate as many Xylvanians as you can" I said. "Does everyone understand that" I asked.
"Yes Sir" said a chorus of soldiers.
We then split up and walked over yo are sides of the bridge.
"Three" I said
"Two" I said continuing to count down.
"One" I said as I held up my assault rifle and crouching behind sandbags.
"Fire" I shouted as I stood up and opened fire on the MG Tower. My battalion quickly opened fire and killed the gunner.
"Alright lets move out" I said jumping over the sandbags and running towards the bridge.
I reached the bridge and stopped running. I had noticed a squad of Xylvanians advancing across the bridge.
"Take them out now" I screamed. I then shot a Xer in the leg and he fell into the river below. The rest of my men took care of the rest.
I then ran to the other side of the bridge and saw a few light tanks driving out if the Forrest.
I turned around to my men and had the bazooka soldiers to the front. "I want you guys to go take out those tanks and the heavy recon will assist" I said.
The bazooka and the heavy recon left to attack the light tanks while the rest of us attack the enemy I infantry.
The Solar Empire troops had formed a perimeter around the helipad and were defending against the Xylvanian attacks.
"C'mon boys lets break through there line" I shouted as I charged at the Xers.
I ran up behind them and hit one in he back with my gun. The Xer fell forward and knocked over another Xylvanian soldier.
I then started to shoot bullets in all directions. I continued to shoot from the hip until there was the perfect path to the helipad.
"Move your asses now" I cried. All my men had now regrouped and were pushing past any Xer in there way.
As we reached the Solar Position I saw that two T-Copters had landed and were waiting for us.
"Move your fat asses to that T-Copter" I shouted pointing at the two T-Copters on the helipad.
As I ran up the stairs I saw that Donavan had been shot in the leg and was still back near the Solar soldiers.
I quickly ran over to him and I helped him to his feet and we walked towards the T-Copters.
He was leaned on me as we walked.
Suddenly a bullet him my right arm and I dropped my assault rifle. I picked it up and started shooting at anything blue.
"F**K YOU" I shouted as I continued to spray billets everywhere.
Soon A-Qira approached me and help me and Donavan are feet while bullets soared past.
"Thanks A-Qira" I said. "No thank you for your help" he said as he left to join his men.
I got and myself to the are T-Copter and we sat down and waited for the medic to arrive.
As we took off and I ramp closed the medic came over to patch us both up.
"Some bullet" said the medic as he bent down next my arm. "It's just a scratch" I said as he started to clean it out.
"You and the other gut are lucky" said the medic as he put the bandage on my wound. "Why is that" I asked. "Well because the bullet passed through your body" said the medic.
"Good then" I said as the medic left to check out other soldiers.
"Another day another dollar" said Donavan joking around. "Yeah I guess your right" I said looking out the small window.
