CHAPTER 22--Kurosaki Ichigo

I was in shock. Someone killed right in front of me, and I was helpless to do anything. Killed by one of his own brothers. I... I...  

I felt my body rise and grip Zangetsu. "Did you do this, Aiko?"  

"Yes, I told you he fell from the path of light we seek."  

"Aiko. You. Will. PAY. YAHHH! GETSUGA TENSHO!" I shot a powerful blast at him, and it hit, alright. I was pissed.  

How could he just kill hisbown brother like that? That's not how an older brother was EVER supposed to act! 

"Stupid! Don't get in the middle of this!" 

"How could you?!"  

He stopped and put his hand to his face. His sword dangled lopsidedly from his other hand. He had this look in his eye. The shard. It had poisoned him. Made him kill his own brother. It needed to be destroyed. "The shard, the shard told me to. It told me he was in pain, so I had to had to end it! Return him to the light, amd use his shard to do it, you know?" His probably normally handsome features had been twisted into an expression of rage and confusion. It was sad. I wouldn't hive him a chance to use the shard, I would end it before then.  

"No, I don't know. I don't know how something could make another person kill his own. I think it's- I think it's, TIME TO END THIS! YAAH! GETSUGA. TENSHO!" I came up right behind the initial attack and pushed my zanpakto through the shard in his chest. 

His dim eyes looked peaceful. Like his brother's.  

Then the shard imploded, along with him. 

I sat there for a second trying to understand all the crap that had just happened. I was fighting to destroy a shard, then I won, then I was fighting for the person who I was fighting in the first place, then I won, and ultimately my goal was achieved, but why so much fighting? In the end, it just made me... sad.  

A hug, someone was hugging me. "It's alright. You did okay... my sweet ITSYGO..."  

"Hinata?" 

Light started filling in. I looked up, and far above shafts of light were coming in from dozens of holes. 

A small slobber filled face was coming dangerously close to mine. "Oh Itsygo, Nel will make it all better- WAIT! You WANTED it to be Hinata, didn't you? You perv! How could you do this to me? You wanted a hug from her instead of me because she has-"  

"No! Shut up, Nel!" I yelled, trying to pry her off of me. Well, I knew SHE was okay. Hinata whimpered next to us, practically hiding behind... "Kurenai-sensei!"  

"Uh, yeah, I'm- I'm alright. Just a little tired..." Hinata went from holding her to carrying her. I jumped up to help.  

As we walked back to the place we came from, Hinata told me what happened on her end. Nel quickly dispatched of Ginjei, and got there just in time to help Hinata with Aiko. As she was about to deliver the final blow, he teleported away. Not behind her like expected, but to go kill his brother, in a desperate grab to get more power.  

"What about her husband, and the little boy's dad?"  

"No trace," 

I looked up the large hole we had come from. So bright. I wanted to see the light again. I took up Kurenai first, to meet Kiba and Shino. "Here," I said tersely. "I'm going get Hinata and Nel," I thought I saw Kiba get all excited at the thought of seeing Nel. He was in for a surprise.
