Summers pov

It's lunchtime now. And even though I hated her like three hours ago, Isabel and I are kinda sorta best friends now. We got to work together to do a puzzle as some sort of 'social skill building activity' while we were talking I realized that we had a lot in common. We both have dogs, we both hate the color pink and lots of other stuff. I told her she could come and meet mommy after school or even ride in a limo if mommy isn't there. She said that she has to start going back to work and also that I shouldn't be disappointed if she's not here to pick me up today. But that's fine because she promised that my favorite babysitter Anne would be there to watch me. As Teddy, Isabel and I walked into the lunch room a teacher came behind me and tapped my shoulder.

"You're summer swift right?" Was she a fan? I've never had fans like mommy does.

"Yes." I replied, turning around.

"Please come with me." Before I could do anything about it I was being dragged down the hall in a different direction. We stopped at a door with a sign on it. The first word was very familiar 'special', a word I hadn't had a problem with until today. The other word was a long one that started with an E. In the room, I was placed at a table with seven other kids. Four were in wheelchairs, two were staring at the ceiling and making strange noises. The girl sitting was just staring at her food. Her hair covering her face, she would sigh loudly, as if she were trying to deliberately tell the teachers that she was bored with absolutely everything.

"Excuse me, why am I in here?" I asked one of the three teachers.

"Well, this is a class where you can make friends with other children like you." I looked around the classroom again. I don't drool or make weird noises. I'm not in a wheelchair. I don't need any help with anything, yet all day I haven't had a chance to do anything on my own.

"O-oh" I said, tucking a few strands of hair behind my ear and looking down at my food. Other children like you. While I wanted to know what she meant by that, I didn't feel like talking at all. I took a bite of my sandwich. It felt dry in my mouth so I tried washing it down with water. I looked at the girl next to me. She looked much older than me and I could tell she was faking. Once all the teachers were too occupied to notice, she lifted her head and started eating.

"So, what's wrong with you?" She asked.

"Nothing. I was put in her by mistake." I stated matter-of-factly. She found this hilarious.

"This entire program is a mistake. But seriously. Everyone in here has a problem, name at least one thing that you've been diagnosed with and I'll tell you what they put you down as."

"Schizophrenia, anxiety... The list goes on and on." I said.

"Ok... I bet they just call that behavioral issues."

"But that's not what I have." This is a very confusing school. I just want to go back home.

"It's what they think. And what teachers say about a student is always right, no matter what the student says. Take me for instance, I'm Nadine by the way, I have Some disorder I can't pronounce. But I know that I shouldn't be in here. But I am."

"So what do we do in here anyway?" I asked, taking another bite of my sandwich.

"Nothing. And once you're in you can't get out." Although it looked very much like a classroom, the way she was explaining it was making me positive that this place was nothing short of a glorified prison.

"Shouldn't we do something about it?" Nadine found this awfully funny as well.

"Oh sure, what should we call it, retard's rebellion?" I scowled.

"That isn't a nice word." I mumbled.

"Calm down, it was a joke."

"A mean one." She rolled her eyes.

"Well while you waste your life away faking dysfunctional, I'm going to make things right." I said, standing up.

"Bold move kid," She sighed. I just stood there for a moment "Go on." I walked up to one of the teachers and stared up at her. Yeah, standing up to an adult is way harder than you'd think.
