Summer's povIt's winter break now, so I haven't seen Violet in a few days. Mommy says she's living with a foster family with a lady and a bunch of other kids. It sounds fun but it surely can't be. Everyone there is going through something that they probably don't like. And there's only one little old lady there to help them through it. Today we're going to visit her. I hope she isn't sad.
"Are you going to adopt Violet." I asked mommy on the way there.
"I don't think so buddy, but don't worry, she'll have a new family soon enough."
"It took me four years, mommy, what if she never does?" I messed with the hem of my skirt. She sighed.
"Baby, it's not that easy. I really wish I could but you know I'm super busy at the moment and.." I hid my face in my hands. I've learned to cry on command, works like a charm. "Summer, crying isn't how to get your way." She said. I just cried louder. "You're an incredible actress." She said sarcastically. Her eyes returned to the road but I could tell that she was beginning to cave. "You're right, I'll see what I can do." She smiled back at me making me giggle.
"When am I not?"
"Don't get cocky." decided to change the subject, I didn't want to push it.
"Remember how a long time ago I had that tv audition?" She seemed to be hiding a smile but nodded. "A bunch of stuff happened so did you reschedule it?" She nodded.
"I was going to tell you later, but it's tomorrow."
"Tomorrow? Mommy, you have to tell me stuff like this! I haven't prepared a monologue and I don't even know what they want me to do. And what to wear mommy?!What to wear?" I threw my hands up and leaned back in my car seat. "You're killing me here." Mommy always says 'I swear every day with you is a theatrical performance.' But I'm being serious.
"Ok, first of all, you're five, so they probably won't expect you to have a monologue and second, you're dressed better than the average adult most of the time, so to answer your question, literally anything in your closet."
"What if I wanted to wear pajamas?" She asked.
"We're not going to play the what if game."
"How about I wear pajamas?"
"Summer." She said sternly. I crossed my arms.
"You're no fun. You're always grumpy all the time." I mumbled. Mommy's always at this place called the studio now. I don't know what it means but she comes home late and ed always has to watch me and blue. I like when Ed comes to our house but mommy doesn't spend much time with me anymore.
"I'm sorry babe, if you really want to know what's going on I'll tell you." I nodded rapidly. I love being told secrets, if only I could keep them. "Well, after I adopted you, I took a break from my work to let you get used to everything, but now a lot of people want to interview me." I nodded. Ed told me mommy had interviews but I thought it was a disease.
"What's an interview?" I asked.
"It's when someone asks questions and you answer them."
"Why?" I asked, tilting my head slightly.
"Well, because I've been gone from the media for a while and people want to know more about what I've been doing so people ask me questions."
"That's creepy. Don't these people have jobs?" She laughed at me.
"Interviewing is their job, Summer." Mommy turned into a drive way of a nice house with pretty flowers in front. The house was light blue with a dark brown roof. I thought it was a little small compared to our house but it was still pretty.
