Summers pov
Apparently yelling at a teacher gets you in big trouble. The bell rang for school to get out and now I have to sit in the office and wait for mommy to get here so she can have a meeting with the teacher. The door opened and a girl walked in and sat next to me.
"Hi." I said.
"Hey." She replied. And then we just sat there.
"So.. Why are you in here?" I asked.
"My aunt isn't here yet so I have to wait." She said with a hint of sadness in her voice. "She's always late." She sighed, looking down at her hands.
"Well, is she doing something really important during the day?"
"She's always doing something important. More important than spending time with me, usually."
"That sucks." She laughed a little bit.
"Yeah, it really does. But I hate her anyway so it's fine."
"Thats still terrible." I said. "So, where are your parents?" This question made her uncomfortable. "Oh, I'm sorry."
"No it's fine. I used to live in England, but my parents died in a car accident along with my sister Erica. After a couple of days, I was shipped off to America to live with my aunt and I've been here for about a year now." I nodded. "And you?"
"Why I'm in here? Well, I'm kinda in trouble, my mom has to have a meeting with the teacher."
"Oh." She said. "Tell me about your family, I mean it's only fair since you asked about mine."
"It's just mommy and I. I've never had a dad before, I had an Adam once."
"What's that?"
"A big meanie." I said. "Anyway, I'm not very sure about any other family I had. I met my birth mother on accident one time, mommy adopted me almost a year ago." She half smiled.
"Is your mum nice?" She asked.
"Oh, she's great! You'd love her. I also have a dog named blue and my grandma and my grandpa are really nice too."
"Oh, that's cool. Mines are dead." She seemed to be going towards the negative things in her life.
"There has to be something good about being you."
"Hm, well yesterday I found a nickel on the ground." She said.
"What would you buy with a nickel?"
"When time travel is invented, I'm gonna go back in time and buy five pieces of candy." I smiled.
"Couldn't you just ask for candy now?"
"Sure, but it wouldn't cost one cent. Besides, my aunt always tells me I'm fat, so I don't eat much. I've only ever had one piece of candy in my entire life and that was when my parents were.. Alive. They took my to this sweet shop in London and let me pick anything I wanted, it's one of my only memories of them."
"What's the other?" She shook her head.
"Right before they died." She whispered. "We were going to an amusement park and I had been super excited because I was finally tall enough to get on a ride. My dad was laughing as I sang some song and my sister wasn't paying attention to anything going on in the car and wouldn't let anyone bother her because she had headphones in and my mum was talking on the phone. There was a scream, then a really loud crash and then everything went dark. I was the only one to survive." A tear slipped down her cheek and she wiped it away. "I was too young to understand where they'd gone, 'I'm sorry for your loss' was all anyone told me, but I didn't know what that meant." Not knowing what to do, I decided on what I do best, I gave her a hug. She smiled. "I've never told the whole story before."
"Maybe it takes the most random of strangers to get the hardest things of your chest."
"You're right, I don't even know you name." I giggled.
"It's Summer. What's yours?"
"Violet." She said. "There's one more thing I want to tell you, but you've got to promise you'll never tell anyone." She stuck out her pinky finger.
"I promise." I said, as we linked our fingers together.
"Sometimes, when my aunt is really mad, she'll hit me and scream bad words and sometimes I don't even get to eat." She said, pulling up the sleeve of her shirt to show me the bruises all up and down her arm. This was bad, I knew, but I had made a new friend and I couldn't break our promise. Before I could say anything, mommy walked into the room. I could tell by her face that I was in big trouble.

Taylor's pov"I was just standing up for myself!" Summer said. I was a bit stressed because I had to be pulled out of an important meeting, but I didn't want to yell at her.
"Yes, and I understand that. But sometimes it's not okay to voice your opinion in such an an angry way."
"I'm sorry." She said quietly. I sighed.
"It's ok baby, it's not your fault anyway, they shouldn't have put you in there without my permission."
"I made a new friend while I was waiting for you, her name is Violet."
"Really? What's she like?
"Well, she's from England, but she moved here with her aunt a year ago. She said her aunt was really mean and-" she quickly stopped herself. "Um, that's it." something was up.
"I'm not allowed to tell." She said although I could see that she wanted to.
"You can tell me." She took a deep breath.
"She told me that her aunt beats her and screams at her and sometimes doesn't feed her." I gasped but I was carful not to alarm Summer. "But please don't tell anyone, I don't want to get her in trouble."
"Sweetheart, I'm going to have to call the police, your friend could get even more hurt if I didn't." She thought about it and then nodded.
"Ok, as long as she doesn't get hurted." She said. And even though I wanted to correct her, I didn't.
"Baby girl, you might just be a little hero."
