Chapter 24
Endellion
The day of the science fair has finally come.
After an immense couple of weeks of preparing, Max's project seemed to turn out impeccably great and for that I was thankful.
We've worked really hard the past two weeks or so, fixing everything together to get the project to become quintessential.
The huge school gymnasium was packed with people and parents. People were sitting up their projects around the large stage that stood in the middle.
Basically, every participant will have to go on the stage, introduce their project, and then they will get judged for it by the Biology teacher, Mrs. Doubs, and two other high ranked adults.
Everything was immaculately set up, which was unsurprising to me.
I couldn't say the same thing about some certain bad boys.
There, next to me, stood the six boys, looking in astonishment at the scene before them. Well minus Luther and Cobra, the two of them simply looked bored out of their minds.
Grinning at Max, who had his jaw wide open, I nudged him on the shoulder real quick and smirked, "close your mouth Maxie, wouldn't want anything to get in there."
To that, Max shut his mouth and rolled his eyes, smiling playfully at me, "sorry Ms. Delly. Won't happen again, I promise."
"Now that's more like it," I grinned as he wrapped his arm around my shoulder.
Over the past couple of weeks I'd gotten really close to Max, I felt. He and I just kind of clicked. And he was really nice and gentlemanly.
But no, I did not think of him as more than a friend. Don't get me wrong, Max was a sweet guy, he's just not the one for me.
SNAP!
I blinked at the flashlight that hit me in the eyes. There, in front of me, stood Julian with a camera in his hands, grinning widely as he looked at the picture he snapped of Max and me.
My lips were about to open to scold the boy, when someone else beat me to it.
Luther stormed up to the blond boy, snatched the camera out of his hand, and angry deleted the picture off of it. He twisted his full lips in an angry snarl, "Don't do that again." He growled angrily.
Everyone seemed to be taken aback by his sudden actions. I mean, everyone was used to Luther's angry mood swings, but he's never really reprimanded his friends in public.
"Luth I was just-" started Julian, looking at Luther in perplexity.
Luther, however, didn't want to hear any of that, "don't you dare take a picture of her without her consent," he snarled, then turned to look at Max and I venomously. "And you," he glowered looking at Max directly, "I already warned you before. Take a fucking hint, won't you?"
Max scrunched his eyebrows together and removed his hand off of me, raising it up in defeat, "Alright, chill Cap."
Luther scoffed, and decided to ignore his comment. He then set his eyes on me, and stared for a moment, his anger slowly diminishing and turning into a soft, confused set of emotions. "Piggy-" he started, looking as though he had not realized what he just did.
"Luther," I said calmly, taking in a deep breath and moving over to grab onto his hand. "Come with me. Let's talk for a second."
He nodded wordlessly, lacing our fingers together and holding onto my hand tightly, as though his life depended on it.
A weird sensation hit the depth of my stomach and I bit my lip, looking over at Max and nodding my head in a 'go set up' gesture.
He nodded, and with that, I dragged Luther outside of the crowded gymnasium.
---
"What happened back there?" I questioned, looking down at our intertwined hands and feeling my heartbeat anxiously increasing.
Luther sighed, causing me to look up at him, only to find him looking down at the grass we were sitting on thoughtfully. "I honestly don't know, Del." He called me by the sobriquet he had given me recently and my stomach fluttered once again. "I get like that sometimes-lose focus- I mean."
I hummed, picking out grass with my free hand.
Luther continued, "Whenever someone messes with my prized possessions, I just snap. It's always been like that."
"Prized possessions..." I murmured, looking down.
"Yeah."
What did he mean by that...could he have possibly meant that I was his prized possession?
"Who's your prized possession?" I questioned, wanting to know who he was referring to.
"Well let's see," he smirked, moving his free hand to my hair, and twirling a piece of it around his index finger. "She's an obnoxious self-centered, rude blondie who eats like a pig, snorts a lot, drives me insane, and is the reason I sometimes question my sanity." He mused, impishly grinning as he tapped my nose with each thing he said.
I felt my cheeks heating up and my heart on the verge of exploding as I gripped his hand tighter, not wanting to let go. "Oh?" I swallowed the lump in my throat as I tried my best to properly let out coherent sentences, "she sounds like a pain."
Luther twisted his head to the side, pensively, before nodding in agreement. "She definitely is a pain in the ass most of the time," I nudged his shoulder playfully, only for him to cackle louder.
A few moments passed in comfortable silence until Luther decided to continue, as he seemed to have been deep in thought for awhile. "Aside from all the crazy shit she does, she's also an amazing person, you know?" he questioned rhetorically, meeting my eyes for the first time since we arrived. "She's the sassiest girl I've ever met so far, always making witty remarks and comebacks. She's hilarious too, always making me want to laugh," he chuckled, not taking his eyes off of me. "She makes me feel weird types of emotions, it worries me, really." He admitted sincerely.
I smiled softly, my stomach doing flips, my heart racing. "Wow, she must be a keeper."
"Yes, Endellion. She definitely is a keeper." He murmured softly, his eyes flickering over to my lips for a second, before looking back up at my eyes.
"Luther?"
"Hm?" he whispered, looking back down towards my lips.
We were inches apart now.
"That girl, what's her name?" I moved closer to him, wanting him to say it.
Luther smirked, "it's-" he began, only to be interrupted by the lady in the intercom, calling us all in for the science fair.
We broke apart in a heartbeat, untangling our hands and coughing awkwardly.
Luther's expression changed drastically, it honestly scared me. He went from vulnerable, to emotionless in a split second.
Luther got up, and said, "Let's go, Piggy, looks like the science fair's about to begin." With that, he left me there sitting on the grass, looking as clueless as ever.
And my heart was not cooperating at all.
