Chapter 26.

Cobrain

"Afternoon, class." Mr. Dubbry smiled, fixing his tie and hurriedly putting down his suitcase on his desk. "I've got some bad news involving the talent show," he cut right to the chase, causing groans to come out of the teenagers' mouths. Mr. Dubbry chuckled and eyed the students. "Actually, it's great news considering you're all so very lazy." He corrected.

A boy named Jeff spoke up in annoyance. "What is it Mr. Dubbry. We've been working really hard the past couple of weeks- just saying."

"Oh ho ho," Mr. Dubbry shook his head, narrowing his eyes at the red headed boy, and said teasingly. "I'd suggest you keep your mouth shut, young man, or I'd be forced to take matters into hand and change your position as the drummer." Jeff looked like he was about to retort as he flushed red in embarrassment, but decided against it and kept his mouth shut. "Anyway, the talent show has been postponed until next month." Mr. Dubbry grinned crookedly.

Without knowing it, I found myself letting go of a breath I didn't know I was holding. A part of me was very nervous about the talent show, and what I'd have to face there.

I was never one to socialize, and standing in front of the entire school did not sound that appealing to me.

                              ---

"You're staying in?" Queried the soft voice I'd gotten used to the past month. I stopped playing on the keyboard and looked up at the Asian girl before me, nodding my head then getting back to what I was doing.

"Mind if I join you?" she asked. I could hear her footsteps coming closer. "Cobbie?"

Upon the mention of the epithet Cecily had made me, I looked up again, sighing and nodding once again.

"Is that a yes or no?" She mumbled, sitting down next to me.

I mentally groaned, turning to look at her sharply, "Does it matter?" I hissed darkly.

Cecily visibly gulped, she then put on a smile and said, "Nope."

Twisting my lips in a snarl, I grumpily moved my fingers against the keys, angrily stomping on them with my digits.

All I could think about was Luther touching Cecily. It made me angry, so very angry.

The worst thing was; I couldn't forget it. The entire ordeal was dumb and I knew Luther didn't feel that way about Cecily-I could see he was already crazy about her psycho friend-yet I still couldn't get over it.

Luther was a player, I knew that much. But he was also my best friend and I knew for a fact he'd never break the bro-code and go for my girl.

I knew it, or at least I hoped I did.

The placement of a soft hand on top of my rough one stopped my rage-filled stomping on the keyboard before me. My orbs looked up at the beautiful girl next to me, forgetting, if even for a second, the horrid scene I'd seen a couple of days ago.

"Are you upset with me, Cobbie?" Cecily asked softly.

My mouth opened for a moment, but nothing came out.

"You've been avoiding me the past few days," she stated, moving her other hand to push back a strand of her hair.

"Do you like him?" I asked bluntly, unable to stop myself.

Cecily furrowed her eyebrows for a second, before realization hit her like a truck. "Luther?" she smiled a bit, moving her hand from on top of mine. "Nope."
