Ash's Pov
Silence.
More silence.
"I'm sorry," Miles whispered, holding my hand as we walked through some trees in an almost deserted park. I nodded and it all felt so fake. Miles' hand was smooth and comforting but it was not Ray. Isn't he the one who is supposed to be by my side? And now, he's gone.
I still loved him. I love him so much that it can never waver. He's all I want. My world.
"Please say something," Miles begged. I opened my mouth to speak but all that came out was a very humiliating choked sob.
"We aren't giving up, are we?" Miles asked me. He stopped and I stopped too, looking at my feet. Has the sun gone down yet? I can't differentiate anything now. Everything is all just so colourless and grey.
When I didn't reply, Miles placed a finger under my chin and lifted my face so that I had no choice but to look at him. I stared into his marvellous red eyes and felt warm for only a second before it disappeared.
"Are you going to get him back, Ash?" Miles asked softly. My gaze flew back to my feet.
I shook my head slightly but it was enough for Miles to hold me tight and give me a tight slap to the face. I fell to the ground and stayed there. I could feel pain flashing through my scraped knee and my cheek where he had slapped me but I couldn't bother.
"You're not giving up on him!" Miles ranted. "You love him, for Christ's sake! He loves you back. This is all just a stupid mistake. See, I think he must have lost his memory when he received that blow to his head. At least, only some of it. He seemed to react to his name. We can get him back, Ash. You just need to try again. I'm pretty sure he'll get back his memory soon."
I didn't look up. I saw Miles kneel down next to me and grab my arm. He pulled me upright and said, "Are you with me?"
No response.
"I'll take that as a yes," Miles muttered and pulled me to my feet. I sank to my knees immediately, too weak to stand straight. Miles sighed and picked me up. He carried me easily to his car and pulled on my seatbelt for me. He looked at me for a moment and then he was gone, reappearing again in the driver's seat.
"You're really light, you know. You should put on some weight," Miles said.
I just simply nodded and sagged back into the seat. Miles sighed and drove on to some hotel for the night. He parked his car and I got out. I followed him inside and crinkled my nose at the stink. I could see a lot of gaunt, alcoholic faces looking at me hungrily as if I was meat. I shivered and crept closer to Miles.
He confidently went over to a fat man wearing nothing but some brown pants, showing off all his body hair. Ugh.
"A room for two," Miles said and the man looked at him once before his dark eyes stared at me. I shuddered involuntarily and the man reached out to touch me when Miles yanked me back.
"No touching, please. And I said, a room for two," I was marvelled by how confident he sounded. He was calm, collected. I leaned heavily on him as the man gave us a key and waved us off saying,
