Chapter 40
The vixens eyes glowed a deep red, full of rage. Her lips curled back to show her decaying teeth which hung from her rotting gums. The fox licked the top row of teeth and begun to circle Lightningfrost. Nighthawk watched at a distance, helpless. Lightningfrost begun to follow the vixens paw-steps, they started to circle eachother. Time seemed to move slow, both animals were fixated on eachother, not taking in the battle that surrounded them. Screeches and blood were cast out into the battle, but neither her or the vixen paid any attention. Lightningfrost lashed her tail side-to-side while the fox barked at her. Both of them seemed to have stopped for just a split second, like time has truly frozen over. The fox then charged at Lightningfrost, who was already prepared for the bolt of the fox. The fox reared up slightly as she charged, Lightningfrost done the same. They clashed together with such force that Lightningfrost was slightly shocked by he blow, the fox had the upper hand, as she had the weight. The fox started to snap at her neck and throw her to one side, but the warrior held her ground. She unsheathed her claws and dug them as deep as she could into the foxes matter pelt, but it made no difference. Lightningfrost pushed the fox back as hard as she could, trying to get her off. Suddenly the fox slightly shook her, bringing her to the floor. Her head slammed against the ground. A slight ringing rang in her head and the shapes of the battling cats around her started to blur. She noticed a cat staring at her, Nighthawk. The black warrior stood there, her eyes wide open with fear. But a wave of orange fur flooded over the StreamClan cat, blocking Lightningfrosts view. For a split second, she thought this was it, that she was going to die. The fox placed her paw on Lightningfrosts head and slowed started to push. Pain slowly erupted in her skull, it felt as if her whole head was going to explode. She then swung her back legs at the foxes neck, unsheathing her hooked claws and digging them in deep. The fox shrieked and crumpled away. Lightningfrost staggered to her paws, trying to quickly recover from the exploding pain in her skull. Before the fox could recover itself, Lightningfrost charged towards her and bowled her over. The vixen tumbled a few times and Lightningfrost tried to keep her balance. She then staggered over to the vixen and placed her front two paws on her belly. The vixen looked up at her.

"This is over" Lightningfrost huffed. She then took a deep breath and dug her claws into the foxes under belly and drag her forepaws towards her. The fox howled as blood and flesh were torn away from her body. Between her paws, Lightningfrost could feel the vixens tough, crimson flesh. The fox was paralysed in shock, she started to shack violently as she looked down to see eight gapping claw marks in her stomach. Blood started to squirt from the body as Lightningfrost had cut through a main artery. She stood there and watched the vixen slowly die in pain. She then lunged inside one of the gashes, into the vixens chest. Once again the fox let out a shaky howl. She bit down on what she was after and pulled it out as it continued to beat in her mouth. She then dropped it next to the vixens face, who's eyes widened in terror. It was the vixens beating heart.

Nighthawk watched as the vixen pushed Lightningfrost into the ground. Her heart started to beat quicker with fear, Lightningfrost couldn't die this way. Suddenly a fox reared up in front of her, her eyes widened in fear. Nighthawk quickly lept for the young foxes throat. The fox growled in pain and tried to shake the cat off, but she clung on. She needed help but every other cat was too busy fighting their own battle. Suddenly a flash of grey fur lept onto the fox she was fighting. Both warrior bit down as hard as they could on the fox, the claws bartering his pelt. The fox started to get weaker until he collapsed in exhaustion and pain. Nighthawk released her jaw from the foxes neck and look up to see what cat had helped her. It was Greydawn. The toms grey pelt was mattered in blood, a large gash was cast across his side which was bleeding heavily.

"You need to see one of the medicine cats!" Nighthawk shouted to the tom over the noise of the battling cats. He narrowed his eyes.

"I'm fine! My clan mates need me!" He shouted back to her. Before he had the chance to jump back into battle, she stepped infront of him.

"Greydawn you're weak and bleeding badly, please just go and see them" she said trying to persuade him calmly. His blue eyes narrowed with anger. He thrusted his face into hers.

"And if I went to see them when I needed to, I wouldn't have been able to save your mangey pelt" he hissed through gritted teeth. The DarkClan warrior had a point but he still needed help and Nighthawk was not going to give up on that. Before she could respond a howl erupted from the clearing, some of the foxes stopped fighting and looked to where their leader was fighting Lightningfrost. Nighthawks head turned into the direction the foxes were looking in. Greydawn noticed that she was distracted and saw his chance to leap back into battle. Another howl erupted again, this time with much more pain. The foxes then started to run.

They ran as fast as they could away from the scene, many of them limping and bleeding heavily. Cats been and cheer at their victory. Relief flooded over Nighthawk as the battle was finally over. A cat then nudged her pelt. Treewish. The handsome tabby tom was covered in blood but he barely has a scratch on him. Both cats smiled and nuzzles eachother. He then looked up.

"Great StarClan" he breathed. Nighthawk narrowed her eyes and looked at the clearing. Blood. Blood was all she could see, body scattered the clearing of cats and foxes that were killed, luckily it was mostly the foxes body which took up the clearing. Then she remembered, Lightningfrost. Nighthawk darted away from her mates side and bolted towards where she last saw her friend, and then she saw her.

Lightningfrost stood over the vixens body who's face was frozen in pain and fear. Nighthawk had to turn away for a split second, Lightningfrost had turned the foxes body into strips of flesh. As she turned back, Lightningfrost turned around. Her face was covered in blood. She staggered slightly towards her then collapsed. Before Nighthawk could rush to her side, a muscular tom had beaten her to it. Her looked up with fear in his eyes.

"Get a medicine cat, now!"
