Chapter 41

Her eyes slowly fluttered open. Her vision blurred, she could faintly make out the shapes of cats, a few fox lengths away from her. She laid there for a second, taking in the sweet aroma that drifted around her. The sky was a deep purple, which was lit up by the dozens of white stars which filled the sky. Her body ached, but with each breath the took the pain started to slowly fade. Slowly, she lifted herself to her paws and sat down after letting out a heavy breath.

"Lightningfrost" a soft voice said. Her gaze drifted over to the voice. Bluestar stood there, her tail high in the air with the tip slightly flicking in time with her breathing. Her pelt glistened in the moon light, her grey blue pelt almost reflecting the light.

"You've done it" a deeper voice then said. Lightningfrost turned to look at the cat who had just spoken. Soulstar sat there, his white face expressionless. She twitched her whiskers and turned back to Bluestar who stood there patiently.

"Why am I here?" Lightningfrost questioned the old ThunderClan leader. Bluestar cast her a soft smile.

"You defeated the foxes, you saved all of the clans" Bluestar said. Some cats mumbled in the background. A cat then walked from behind her. The cats pelt was an ash, stained with flecks of white from old age, however the cats pelt glowed with life. The she cat had a sweet, light scent which almost tickled Lightningfrosts nose. It took a few heartbeats until Lightningfrost recognised the she-cat.

"I would like to thank you for saving my clan" she said lightly, she bowed slightly so Lightningfrost who, returned the gesture.

"I didn't just save your clan Flowerstar, all of the clans together did" Lightningfrost replied. The old MeadowClan leader chuckled at Lightningfrosts reply.

"You must now go back to the clans and complete what is missing" Bluestar instructed. Lightningfrost nodded but then turned to Flowerstar.

"How will I persuade Grasseyes to allow his warriors to leave his clan?" Lightningfrost asked. She knew how head strong the MeadowClan deputy was, he wouldn't let his warriors leave his clan without a fight. Flowerstar smiled at her, her beautiful amber eyes rested gently on her. The MeadowClan leader still carried the same amount of grace and beauty from when Lightningfrost had first met her all those moons ago.

"I shall speak with him, he wouldn't go against StarClan" Flowerstar reassured her. Lightningfrosts whiskers twitched at the comment. A tail lightly tapped her shoulder. Her head whipped around to see Strongpaw. The two litter mates nuzzled each others flanks in greeting.

"Good job sis, shame I couldn't help" he said with a purr. Lightningfrost smiled and flicked his dark grey ear with her tail.

"You would have done well" she said with a chuckle. She then noticed a muscular figure standing behind him. Hawkfrost stepped forward and looked down at her. The tension between the two warriors made Strongpaw tense.

"You'll make a fine leader" he said, his voice deep and gruff. Her claws unsheathed slightly, but she nodded to the tom she once loved.

"I will do my very best to make my ancestors proud" She replied calmly. Even though she loved Hawksoul, a part of her would always love Hawkfrost. Guilt flooded over her, she turned back to Bluestar.

"You beat get back" she said. Bluestar walked over to Lightningfrost and touched her nose with hers. A light, tingly feeling flooded through her body. The cats before her started to fade out.

"Tell Mum and Dad I love them" Strongpaw said, his voice fading. Another voice caught her attention.

"Tell Dirtface that I love him and that I'll always be waiting"

Lightningfrost awoke once again, this time in a log structured den. Her body ached, and her breathing didn't ease the pain this time. She let out a hiss of frustration.

"Easy, easy" a soft voice said. The strobe scent of yarrow hit her black nose. She was in Redfoots den.

"Where am I?" She mumbled through gritted teeth. Redfoot came over and applied some pulp to the gapping wound on her flank, she hissed.

"You're in DarkClan, your friends are outside" Redfoot informed her. The ginger tom walked back to his supply's. Lightningfrost had forgotten about them. Before the battle, she took River, the kits and the OceanClan cats back to DarkClan to keep them safe.

"Is everyone okay?" She asked, trying to keep as still as possible to help ease the pain.  Redfoot stopped what he was doing and turned to her, pain flashed across his face.

"Whilst you were gone, Lakepool passed after kitting. Flowerstar passed away during the battle. Some cats are seriously injured" Redfoot said with a sigh. She knew both Lakepool and Flowerstar had died, but her heart still ached for the lost of them both. He nodded over to the corner of the den behind Lightningfrost. She turned around. Behind her laid Flamespark and Smokestorm, the two little mates laid side by side. The ginger tom had scratches all down his pelt, and half of his right ear had been torn off. His grey brother had a gapping gash down the side of his flank. Lightningfrosts eyes widened at the wounds left on her clan mates. Her eyes narrowed as she turned back to Redfoot, who has continued to sort herbs.

"How are they doing?" She asked. Redfoot flicked his ear. He picked out some poppy seeds gently in his mouth and set them down next to Lightningfrost, encouraging her to eat them with a flick of his ginger tail.

"Flamespark is doing okay and will heal quickly, Smokestorm however" the let in a sharp breath and cocked his head to the side slightly, "he will take time to heal properly"

Lightningfrost turned back to look at him, his breathing was shallow. Lightningfrost slowly rose to her paws, staggering slightly. Redfoot assisted her to until she was stable. A pounding flooded the back of her head, she bit back a hiss.

"Take it nice and slow" he said to her softly. The two DarkClan cats walked slowly out of the den.

Sunlight hit Lightningfrosts face making her wince. The breeze was cool, leaf-fall had arrived. She looked around the camp, nothing seemed to have changed since she was gone. Snowfeather sat with Sunsky on their favourite rock. Lightningfrosts heart flooded with joy at the sight, the three females has become extremely close over the many moons which had past. Riverlight and Greydawn sat crouched under a slumped tree, murmuring to one another. Shadowmoon, Thistlehawk, Hawksoul and the other cats which had travelled with her sat close together quietly talking to one another. Shadowmoona head then poked up from the cats around her, her milky green eyes lit up.

"LIGHTNINGFROST!" She cries, sprinting towards her daughter. Lightningfrost let a mew of happiness escape from her, she has missed her mother more than she realised. The two she-cats nuzzled each other. Thistlehawk walked over and nuzzled her shoulder. Lightningfrost then looked up to Shadestars den.

"I need to speak with Shadestar"
