Chapter 10

Lightningfrost's snapped open her eyes. The warm sunlight was burning her pelt. She let out a hiss and jumped to her paws. She stalked over to where she buried her rabbit. Her stomach growled with hunger. She peaked into the hole it was buried in.

"Fox-dung!" She thought out loud. Ravens had found the rabbit and ripped all its flesh off. All what was left was its bones. She looked around. The sun was shining bright and there was a faint breeze. She jumped down from the tree and began to set off. She tasted the air. A faint smell of dog was coming from down wind. She wrinkled her black nose in disgust at the smell. Her head snapped around when she saw a bramble thicket rustle from behind her. Bright green eyes stared back at her. She shook her head and they were gone.

She tasted the air, the only scent was that of mud and grass. She narrowed her blue eyes in confusion.

She continued to stalk through the undergrowth. The strong smell of a mouse hit her nose. She dropped into a hunters crouch a stealthily stalked it. Then she saw it nibbling a seed in a bramble thicket. She wound through the thick brambles until she was a fox-length away, being down wind gave her that advantage. The mouse twitched its whiskers and was about to flee but Lightningfrost was quicker. She pounced on the mouse and nipped its spine. Its body went limp.

She took her kill out of the thicket and scented the air for any signs of predators. Once she knew it was all clear she settled down in a patch of grass to enjoy her kill. She looked up. Once again she saw the bright green eyes gazing back at her with interest. Lightningfrost blinked. Then they were gone.

"I'm probably just missing the clans" she though out loud in a whisper. She finished her mouse in a few more mouth fulls and left it there to be crow food.

She set off once more. Suddenly the though occurred to her. She has no idea where she is going. She dug her claws into the ground with frustration. Suddenly barking filled the air. She snapped her head around. Back in DarkClan territory not many dogs entered it, but she tried to remember the training Sunsky and Greydawn taught her.

Her back fur bristled as the high-pitched yapping got closer. Then a small dog appeared, it was no bigger than an apprentice. It looked about nine moons old. She grinned, she knew she could take this rat dog on. But louder paws came closer. Soon she was face to face with a larger dog. He barked and howled at her.

"Mouse-dung!" She spat. She couldn't take both of them on. She stared at the dogs. Suddenly the little one spoke.

"When shall we kill it?" It said without opening its mouth. Lightningfrost stared in disbelieve.

"Soon young one" the bigger one barked. Dogs don't talk cat! Lightningfrost didn't know what to do, she was frozen with shock. The bigger dog let out one last bark and charged at her.

"Oh StarClan help me!" She shouted wide eyed. She whipped around and pelted through the forest. The twolegs tried to call their dogs back but they still ran after her. She was closing in on a tree. She jumped up it as high as she could. The dog jumped to, its hot breath just missing her tail. But she raked its claws along its black nose. The dog whined and ran to its twolegs. The puppy followed.

Lightningfrost let out a sigh of relief and jumped down from the tree.

"That was close" a voice said. A grey cat walked out from the branches in a tree. She narrowed her eyes at him. His amber eyes studied her.

"Who are you?" She asked, the grey tom smiled at her. She thought that he was the cat she had been seeing but his eyes were amber not green.

"Roscoe, and yours beautiful?" He asked with a grin, jumping down from the tree and walking towards her. Her pelt grew hot with embarrassment and frustration. He was a handsome cat but then she thought of Hawkfrost. She tried to push him out of her mind.

"Lightningfrost" she snarled, he chuckled.

"Beautiful name for a beautiful cat" he whispered in her ear. She twitched her whiskers.

"What do you want Roscoe?" She asked. He sat down next to her.

"I just want to know the most beautiful cat in the forest" he stated innocently. She smiled. She then stood up and walked off, on purpose letting her tail brush past his nose. He breathed in her sweet scent.

"Well I must go" she fake sighed. She began to walk away when she heard his paw steps from behind her. He nuzzled her shoulder.

"Stay with me, we could have the most beautiful kits" he said. She turned to look at the tom. Something wasn't right. She pushed her face into his in a threatening way.

"I am warning you, if you're trying to trick me I will kill you" she growled. He grinned. She once again walked off.

"See you around Lightningfrost" he said slowly. She growled to herself. Stupid toms.
