Chapter 46
Lightningfrost watched as her clanmates settled down in their new camp. Thistlehawk lead the warriors down into the warriors den, River took the kits into the nursery whilst Cherrytree and Frostpaw made themselves comfortable in the medicine cats den. They were all exhausted from the long journey. She turned around and made her way back into her den and made herself comfortable in her moss nest which Grassblade had made for her. She was just able to drift off into a deep sleep when she heard paw steps outside her den. She lifted her head to see Hawksoul standing there.
"May I come in?" he asked quietly, his head slightly cocked. Lightningfrost waited for a heartbeat to admire the tom. He was tall and muscular; his brown tabby pelt was long and thick with a few black patches on his back. The white fur on his chest laid flat, his emerald green eyes glowed in the moonlight.
"Of course you can" she purred. The tom smiled and laid down next to her and began grooming her pelt. She hadn't noticed how tense she was, with each lick she began to relax.
"I'm surprised you didn't go to Sky-rock tonight" he then said. Lightningfrost rested her head on her paws and tried to not drift off into a deep sleep.
"setting up the camp is more important, Cherrytree is exhausted, I couldn't expect her to make that journey" she replied sleepily, "besides, StarClan isn't going anywhere" she continued with a small smile. Lightningfrost was in no rush to get her nine lives, the wellbeing of her clan mates was more important to her now than herself.
"well you best go tomorrow, don't keep them waiting" he chuckled. Lightningfrost closed her eyes once again and allowed his licks to send her into a deep sleep.
Her eyes slowly fluttered open. Her den was perfectly lit enough to not blind her when she woke. She laid there for a few heartbeats and allowed the sun to warm her pelt. Her body no longer ached, but her stomach growled in hunger. She hadn't eaten properly in a few sunrises. Still, she laid there for just a moments peace listening to the birds singing outside. She turned her head to see that Hawksoul was no longer in the den with her. Sighing she rose to her paws and stretched before leaving her den. As she walked out, she winced as the sunlight caught her blue eyes, I'll have to get used to that.Talking flooded the camp. She looked down to see her clanmates all eating together and sharing tongues, they all looked well rested.
"Ah Lightningfrost you're awake," she turned to see Grassblade jumping up the rocks to get to her, "me and Thistlehawk marked the boarders this morning and Nighthawk set out a hunting patrol, we didn't want to wake you" he informed her quickly. She rested her tail on the small toms shoulder.
"Thankyou, how was the hunting?" she said, the tom smiled and nodded over to the fresh kill pile.
"Extremely well, the prey almost fell into their paws!" he laughed. She mewed in laughter back. He was right, there was a couple of squirrels and birds, there was even some fish on their too.
"River helped, I was thinking, maybe..." his voice trailed off, she knew what he was asking. He wanted River to become a warrior. She rested her fluffy black tail on his shoulder and smiled, reassuring him that she would soon be made a warrior. His eyes widen in excitement for his mate.
"Well I should probably go and eat" she said jumping down from the ledge, Grassblade swiftly behind her.
"We will be travelling to the Sky-rock soon" Cherrytree said walking towards her. The small white, ginger patched she-cat stood there with a twinkle of excitement in her green eyes.
"Cherrytree, can I help you sort out the travelling herbs?" Frostpaw asked trotting upwards them. The white apprentice looked at her black paws, waiting for Cherrytree to answer.
