Chapter VIII

A Distraction

-Rayn-

"It's all my fault!" Amelia screamed, covering her face with her hands. A maid wrapped her arms around her, muttering comforting words.

"it's not your fault honey" She muttered.

"I was so blind!" Amelia cried, "I was so stupid, and look what I did!"

"It will be alright shhhhh"

I woke in cold sweat. It was just a dream.

A dream?

About what?

These questions fogged my brain, and I ran a hand down my masked face. I longed to take it off, but with the princess around, I haven't had a chance.

"Rayn?" Jase groggily sat up. "How are you feeling?"

"Better" I mumbled, the stinging of the wound still present.

I sat up, being careful not to stretch out my chest to much. But I winced slightly at the movement. It was a quiet morning, and the ground was wet from rain. Both me and Jase were dry, due to the fact that we had slept under the large pines. The silence was peaceful. A little to peaceful.

Something was missing.

More like Someone.

Shit.

"Really?" I muttered,  limping over to Kage and stuffing my blankets into his saddlebags.

"Whoa were do you think you're going?" Jase inquired, as he grabbed my left arm. I winced slightly.

"I'm going to find her royal pain in the ass"

"You aren't going anywhere until you're healed stupid" Jase told me, crossing his arms.

I threw my hands up in desperation. "What am I supposed to do Jase! Just let her get away?"

"No," He reasoned, "We will go back to the house, have Natasha fix you up, and I'll get Mason to come help us look for her alright?"

I turned around and began to walk away when I was sharply grabbed by my shoulder. Jase forcibly turned me around to face him. He grabbed the cloth that concealed my lower face and tugged it down so it rested on my neck. I took in a breath of air, wincing slightly at the pain from the sudden movement.

"Look at me" he growled. I just turned my head to the ground.

"Dammit Rayn look at me!"

I stared into his blue orbs, a pained expression was written on the lines of his pale face.

There's a sea of lonely,
Swimming sad.

Looking just for,
an arm to grab.

I don't need to,

understand.

I'm just lending you,

The two that I have.

"You are going to listen to me now, and listen good. I will not have you go off alone in search for someone when you're already half dead! I refuse to let you do that Rayn! What about the others huh? What about Lily?!" He shouted in my face.
