Crimson Blade

Chapter XI

Christmas Day.

Red.

The smell was unnerving. The scent of copper and rust filled my lungs. The smell of blood.

The sight was even worse.

Body's were piled and sprawled across the blood soaked ground, creating a horrific scene. They all had been stabed, and cut. It was disgusting. It was a battle field, and I was standing in the middle of the bloodshed.

"Beautiful isn't it?"

I jumped, turning to face the voice.

It was Rayn.

He was leaning on one of his blood coated swords, and his clothes were dyed scarlet.  His eyes were dancing with some sick emotion that was somewhere between madness and anger. He gestured to the body's around him, then spoke in a low voice.

"Your next."

~

I gasped,  my hands flying up to my thumping heart.

Dream.

Oh God, a very detailed and scary dream. All that blood, and the smell of rotting flesh.

I shuddered. It was dark, and with a start I realized it was late at night. I had missed dinner. But on the simple nightstand next to my bed was a bowl of stew with a note lying next to it.

Dear Em,

I came to wake ya, but ya were so out of it I decided to leave ya be. I left a bowl of the rabbit stew as well as some bread for ya if ya get hungry. Jase has told me ya sing? Would ya like to sing for us tomorrow? Little Lily would love it. Just a thought my darling. Have a good rest, I pray God will watch over ya,

-Natasha

I smiled, setting the note down and gulping the cold stew and the bread down in merely seconds. It was delicious and made my tongue tingle.

After wiping my mouth with my hand, (something I would be scolded for in the castle) I swung my bare feet over the bed and dropped onto the cold stone floor. I quickly tiptoed to the red carpet rug and out the door to the window in the hallway. I draped my arms over the stone arch. There was a full moon tonight, like the calm after the storm I guess.

I stared at the stars, moon, trees, anything that was visible from the window. I really tried to not think about the dream, but it kept tugging on the corners of my mind. Another shudder ran down my spine.

Blood.

Flesh.

Rayn.

I shook my head. I needed air, it would help me not think. I scooped up the blanket off the bed and wrapped it around my frame to keep myself warm.
