Here i am again, hopefully my edits are much better than my previous work. A lot has been going on lately that has given me time to think of the next chapters in advance. Thank you guys for reading and leave a like.
At this time of night there wasn't anyone in sight to help. The streets weren't lit with a light bulb or running with any sort of electricity. So it was impossible to find an outlet in these streets. Every once in awhile Arlene would bump into a bundle of hay or something on the road that would take them off balance.
"I swear if I step on horse shit one more time." Exasperated, Arlene side stepped another pile of manure before she stepped on it.
"Oh It's you? I was wondering who brought that smell with them. Not to mention a group of angry men!" John accused.
Laurel wasn't sure if she can be able to run one minute more. Her stomach clenched as she struggled to breath. She can make out that Arlene wouldn't either. Laurel feared the men would catch up and it would be the end. It felt like if the men were a few centimeters away but when she looked back she noticed her pace was faster than theirs. As long as they keep this up, they can outrun them.
"I HAVE AN IDEA" John said going left at a corner as they followed. John pointed up at a ladder, following suit, Arlene climbed up first, then John and Laurel.
John helped Laurel up on the ladder, laying down on top of the roof once she got there. She gasped for breath, receiving the air back in her lungs. John made sure she was OK before glancing at the bottom of the roof. He noticed the men running past the corner. Having a sudden idea instead of hiding there for a while, John wanted to get back at them. There was barrels tied up in a bunch together on top of the roof. Taking out his dagger, he went straight to letting them loose. Before Laurel can protest, John swung the knife on the rope, cutting the barrels loose as they fell to the bottom of the roof.
The men's cries were heard as Laurel looked down at the commotion. John hollered in triumph as the men scrambled to their feet. Shoving barrel's out of the way as Johns yells attracted their attention. Laurel went over to cover his mouth as he eyed her with a raised eyebrow.
"They can hear you, they'll know were up-"
"Up there!"
"There they are!"
"Get the assassins!!!"
Laurel glared at John as she pushed the ladder to the floor. Collapsing in the ground as it shattered in half. The men groaned as John mused with a smirk.
"You couldn't let it go, cant you?" Laurel hissed.
"I get even my ways" Johns ego made her roll her eyes.
"Why did they call us Assassins?" Laurel asked. Both John and Laurel looked over at Arlene, her blood soaked clothing and weapon.
John heard footstep's and clawing against the walls. Slowly walking along the edge of the roof, John cursed under his breath. Laurel looked down with him as he held up a hand to protect her.
"Their not going to quit until they have her." Laurel croaked, fearing Arlene's safety. Arlene sat back down, her knees up to hide her face. Laurel worried then, searching the best way to be safe.
"We have to keep moving," John instructed. Laurel nodded before going back to help Arlene up her feet. Her lips trembled as she spoke in hushed whispers. John was already on the move, waiting for them across the roof.
"It's OK Arlene, were here with you now. We wont let anyone hurt you."Laurel promised. Arlene squeezed her hand as they ran together. Until both girls abruptly stopped, John jumped to the other building in front. Landing harshly but safely on the roof.
"Jump, hurry!!" John said urgently.
"Are you out of your mind?!" Laurel yelled.
"It's either jump or nothing, come on we don't have all day!" John said, crossing his arms.
Lauren groaned in annoyance, before looking back at their pursuers, their hands grasped the ledge making their way up top. She looked at Arlene as they hesitated, taking a step back. Panicking Arlene ran letting go of Laurels hand. She jumped over, crossing the end of the roof as she landed safely next to John.
"Your next, come on." John cheered like a coach to his team.
It took her a while before doing it, something took over, like an instinct Laurel leaped off. Everything was so sudden, a gust of wind and her vision swirled. Her feet hit something solid, she was kneeling, balancing herself with one hand. Laurel couldn't believe that she actually made it.
"Woah..." Arlene awed, "That was-"
"We gotta hurry, come on!" John rushed Laurel on her feet.
Across from them was the fishermen. Looking at the three friends in confusion and rage. Now was a perfect time to keep moving. Only Laurel felt something rushed in her spine. She looked around for anything wrong. On her right she felt a tingling feeling. Looking at another building, she saw a chimney and an empty rooftop. Narrowing her eyes she couldn't help but feel like something else was up there. Or someone.
"LAUREL! what are you doing?!" John cried.
"Something else is up there." Laurel warned. She pointed at what she thought she saw.
"Quit playing around, lets go!" John growled as Laurel jogged back with them.
She shook her head, focusing back at the situation at hand. When she jogged her heart bumped again as she ran in full speed. When she was back to the side of both John and Arlene, she thought of what she saw. She did see someone, she was sure of it.
" Running for our lives and you want to stop and admire the view?" John said sarcastically.
"Honestly, I did see something." Laurel said as John scoffed.
John saw another latter leading downwards. Leading the girls to climb down, he was the last. The girls waited for him until they ran further deep into the streets of Boston. Laurel was up on her guard, whatever she saw wasn't something she wanted to bump into again.
Laurel spotted a place that was illuminated from the inside with a dragon on top of the door. Thinking it was locked she ran ahead with John.
"Look in there!!" Arlene gasped, running over to the building Laurel saw.
"Arlene" John and Laurel hissed together as they followed their friend.
