Dan
Maybe everything was going well enough, and Dan was without charge; but he wasn't without consequence. He had to leave behind Phil, Sugar, Sage, and Evan for four new patients he was going to meet.
But he didn't want any new patients. He had grown to love the little things about each one of them, and letting them go seemed like an impossible task.
Sage and Sugar were even more inseparable as before. Sage never let go of Sugar's hand even when she was bouncing off the walls. Dan could tell it helped calm her down to have Sage be hers. She now didn't have to fiddle with her own fingers because she was holding onto Sage's. Dan couldn't help but smile at how well they fit together, and he knew that one day they just might make it out of Cynthia.
As for Evan, Dan felt even worse. Evan was a mystery who didn't talk to anyone except for Phil. Dan was sad to see him go. He had always been so interesting. His whole story and illnesses. Evan was stable. That's as much as Dan could see. Evan had improved beyond not talking at all to him, but he still remained quiet. Dan wondered how Phil could make him a whole different person just by being in the same room with him.
Phil wouldn't let Dan go. He was holding onto him so tight Dan was suffocating.
"What am I supposed to do without you, Dan?" Phil whispered into his shoulder, "How will I get better without you to take away the pain of it all?"
Dan sighed, "Phil, I'm going to be in this building everyday. We're still gonna see each other, just not as much. I'll make sure I'm scheduled to have lunch with you, okay? Every Thursday I get off early, and I'll spend every second I can with you."
Phil nodded pulling him even closer if that was even possible, "Don't go falling in love with your new patients, alright? You're mine."
Dan laughed, "Okay, I won't. I'm yours."
Really? I'm finally yours.
Phil smiled and pulled away, "Okay, you can go meet your new patients now. You can tell them exactly what you just told me."
Dan turned around to walk out of the room rolling his eyes when he felt a smack on his behind, and his eyebrows raised as he whipped back around.
Phil had a devilish smirk on his face, "Mine."
Dan rolled his eyes again, "You sound like the birds from nemo."
And with that he left Phil's room. He had already said his goodbyes to his other patients. Evan only nodded grimly, Sage have him a hug and tried not to cry, and Sugar saluted him like a solider, and then burst into tears. Even after he told them he was only going to be with a new set of paitents right here, and he wasn't going to Oraugh Bradley.
Dan looked at his clipboard for the room number of his new patients files. Only two of them had had the same Doctor pre-case.
