Chapter Six
I don't know what I'm doing. I'm not adventurous. I'm not spontaneous. Most importantly, I'm not one to open up to people about my dad and much less even mention my mom. So why did I tell Tyler all that I did?
The question had been floating around in my head the second we ended the conversation in the car. We had driven the rest of the way in a surprisingly comfortable silence. I think we were both processing all that was said in a matter of minutes.
I'm beginning to think coming with him to Portland wasn't a good idea after all. Well I didn't think it was a good idea to begin with but something inside just told me to go.
As we reached the sign on the freeway indicating we were only a quarter mile from our destination I asked, "So what now? It's almost ten, I doubt there's much we can do at this point."
"Well had someone not made me stop every half hour to go to the restroom, or eat, or stretch their legs, we would have been here a lot sooner." He complained.
"You didn't have to stop if you didn't want to." I muttered to myself.
"Oh God, are you kidding me Sawyer? You almost bit my arm the last time I refused to stop!"
"I really had to pee! You didn't answer my question, by the way." I explained.
"We're gonna get a hotel room, sleep and then tomorrow morning I'm going to take you around the city to a few of my favorite places."
"So you come all the way over here often?"
"I use to live here before I had to move in with my dad."
"With your mom?"
"Yeah. I'm sure she would have really liked you, you know." He said with a smile.
"What was she like?"
"I'll tell you all about her tomorrow. I'm exhausted from your nagging and driving all day."
Rather than giving him a death glare like I had originally planned on doing I decided on pinching his large arms. It was more for my benefit of seeing him wince in pain and also an excuse to touch his rock hard biceps that flexed when he was gripping the steering wheel.
"Ow! Remind me why I asked you to come with me?" He frowned.
I only smiled at him innocently.
We ended up reaching Hotel Lucia, which was an enormous step up from the usual motels Hailey and I would hide out in.
The place was beautiful, to say the least. The building itself had a New York feel to it, and the inside was modern and chic. I felt completely out of place and I looked out of place. Although we were dressed casually, Tyler carried himself as if he belonged there. I had almost forgotten that he came from a family of money.
We walked up to the counter and Tyler told the receptionist, "Reservation for Evans."
The receptionist was in her mid twenties, slender, blonde, and gorgeous. Worst of all, she was eyeing Tyler like a piece of meat and smiling like her life depended on it. I mean I know we're not a thing, but she didn't know that, so why didn't she think we were? Did I not look like the type of girl who could date Tyler?
"Tyler Evans, yes, we have you booked for the Gallery Suite. If there's anything you need Tyler, don't hesitate to call me." She smiled wildly as she handed him the room keys.
To my surprise, Tyler simply nodded and took the room keys and muttered a quick thanks. I don't know why it did, but I felt oddly happy that he blew her off like that.
