Chapter Twenty Seven
To say I was surprised would be a complete understatement after everything that happened last night.
I wiped away the dried up tears on my cheeks before walking through the front door but new tears took their place just as quickly and stopped me from going in.
Just because I don't love Aiden doesn't mean I don't still really care about him; he slowly became a really big part of my life and tonight changed everything. I lost someone who I became so close to, begun to trust even.
I knew this wasn't it though, I couldn't leave it like this, so haste and heartbroken. I needed to have a real conversation with him to shut this open door. And as for the closed door with Tyler, I guess I'd just have to wait and see.
After I calmed the tears I walked in to an empty house. It was eerie quiet, which was quite a rarity but nice at a time like this. I decided to go to bed and get some rest before work the next morning and simply let whatever dream consume me.
...
"Sawyer come on, hustle. You've got two tables backed up!" Margret said sounding frantic.
It was Sunday, always the busiest day of the week and I was far too distracted to keep up with the morning rush.
"Sorry, I'm just a little out of it today." I confessed.
"You okay sweetie?" She asked.
"Yeah- yeah I'm fine. Um I should get to those tables." I said, making a haste getaway.
Margret was like a mom or a grandma to me and when something was up, I usually confided in her when I needed some expert advice. Only problem is she loves Aiden, and if she found out I tore his heart out of his chest, she'd probably kill me.
As per usual the day seemed pretty uneventful but after the mass amounts of chaos lately, it felt good to not have deal with much.
I wonder what Tyler's doing, I thought.
I hadn't seen much of him since that horrendous double date. Actually I hadn't seen him with Jessica much either, which I'm hoping was a good sign.
I'm sure he's avoiding me, I can't exactly blame him but we seem to always fall into this routine. We fight because we like each other, I tell him the opposite of what he wants to hear, we ignore one another and then try to be friends again but eventually repeat the process over. Kind of exhausting but I'm hoping things will be different.
"Sawyer! Phone call." Margret yelled, snapping me out of my daze.
I finished up the order I was taking on the last table and headed towards the counter to grab the phone.
"Hello?"
"Sawyer, it's me."
That unmistakable voice that annoys me and makes me smile to no end, rang in my ears. I couldn't recognize his mood by his tone of voice, it sounded blank, which left me wondering if he was calling to tell me something good or bad.
"Is everything okay?"
"Yeah everything is fine, Hailey's fine, I'm fine, thanks for asking." He said sarcastically. Good to know not everything had changed with him.
"Okay so what's up? I'm working and Mar is kind of on my ass." I said, sounding rushed.
"When I got home there were13 missed calls from the same number, someone had been calling all morning while I was in class. So I called back and it was some lady saying she knew you and had some information you'd want to know. She didn't tell me much more except to have you call as soon as you can. Sounds kind of urgent though, that's why I called to let you know." He explained.
