Chapter One
The next morning I woke up with Hailey sprawled on top of me. I adore her but after a night like the one we had, I was dying for a few extra minutes of sleep, not to have her feet on my face.
I wish I could say I gently removed her feet but I may have been a bit more rough than that.
"Sawyer!" She yelled as she pushed herself off the floor. Much like myself she wasn't much of a morning person.
I chuckled as I got up to look for the restroom. I didn't get a good look around the house, other than the living room and my room, so needless to say I had trouble figuring out which door I was going to have to riskily open. I decided on the door across from mine. As I pushed the door opened, I was greeted by the sight of a half asleep Tyler peeing.
"What the fuck? GET OUT!" I bit back a laugh as he slammed the door in my face.
I didn't see anything I shouldn't have but he didn't know that. Tyler looked like he would be fun to annoy, I was getting rather tired of bugging Hailey.
As I made my way downstairs I walked into a surprisingly clean kitchen. Actually now that I think about it the whole house was fairly clean. Who even knew a college frat boy could be this neat?
My astonishment only grew as I opened the super market like fridge. Not only was it enormous but you name it and he had it in there.
Who is this guy? I thought. I expected nothing but pop tarts and beer. I may have this guy figured out all wrong, well so far, my mind wasn't completely dissmissing all my previous assumptions of him just yet.
Tyler strolled in minutes after, wearing sweatpants riding pretty low on his hips, showing off that amazing v shape that girls go crazy for, including me. "Didn't anyone teach you to knock?" I guess someone doesn't like being interrupted during their morning piss.
"Hey no need for the attitude. I'm sorry, I obviously didn't know you were in there, if not I wouldn't have gone in. Besides there wasn't much for me to look at anyway." I playfully smirked.
He was taken aback by what I said but recovered quickly, "There's plenty actually, want to take another look?" He wore a cocky grin as he said it.
"Once is traumatizing enough, thank you very much." Hailey, despite being seven, constantly told me I was always flirting even if I didn't mean to and her little devilish voice was repeating those words to me as I stood there talking to Tyler. Although, every time she mentioned it, I could have sworn I was being as innocent as possible. Regardless, my focus needs to be on Hailey and making sure we're not found again. I can't be wasting my time fliritng or not flirting with strangers.
With that final response I found my way back to the restroom to take a much needed shower. My hair is usually sleek and in place in its long, jet black glory. But looking in the mirror, I looked like I had been attacked by a hair dryer. I quickly jumped into the warm shower and that's when my mind began to race.
I can't believe it took him nine months to find us, a new record actually. If he manages to find us again I think this time we're done. I honestly don't know if I'll be able to get away again. We came so close this last time. I need to keep Hailey safe, and not just for her but for me as well. She's all the family I have left and I won't lose her without a fight.
Stepping out of the shower with my towel wrapped around my body, I opened the door and stepped out only to find Tyler waiting for me.
He side stepped past me and said, "This is how you knock on a door" he said as he rose his fist to connect with the door. "See? Really simple. Even you can do it." Okay I know I failed to knock when he was in there but I'm not five, and I wasn't about to let him treat me like I was either.
