Mason Blake: Chapter 14

                I stood near Julie and Maren under the big willow tree. It was Monday again and I only had today and tomorrow before my parents arrived in time for Christmas.

                This year we’ve had a relatively warm winter considering it's December and the temperature is slightly over 40. Not that I’m complaining though, I hate the cold weather.

                “So I was thinking we should go dancing during break,” Maren suggests a devious look on her face.

                I smile, but roll my eyes, “I don’t know Maren,”

                “Oh come on! It’s just dancing and you never do anything fun,” she complains giving me a playful glare.

                I shove her, “Fine, but I’d have to check with my parents,” I reply grudgingly.

                Maybe they won’t let me go…

                Maren shakes her head at me knowing I’ll most likely make a hundred and ten excuses as to why it’s not safe to go and talk my mom into not letting me go out. It’s not that I’m antisocial or anything it’s just that I don’t specifically enjoy partying. I love the dances at school, but when it comes to a real club, well…Mason taking me to that party was enough to make me never want to step into a club.

                “Hello Julie,” I hear Mason greet.

                I jump at the sound of his voice. Where did he come from?

                It’s like his name popped into my head and then he appeared from thin air.

                “Hey Mason,” Julie chirps being friendly.

                I see Maren fidget before sighing dramatically and looking in Mason’s direction.

                “Hello Ma-Ma. Okay never mind, can’t do it!” she yells, turns on her heel, and struts off to who knows where.

                I laugh to myself. She’s getting closer. Maybe one of these days she’ll actually be civil to him.

                Well a girl can hope, can’t see?

                “So how was your weekend?” Mason continues.

                Julie looks over at me and I roll my eyes for like the third time that morning.
