~Alex~
I stumbled along with Mason- sand getting into my shoes.
“You sure you want to do this?” Mason asks for like the fifth time in the past five minutes.
I nod at him before letting out and exasperated “yes.”
And just in case you’re wondering, no I’m not sure but what can I do? It’s not like I’m going to let Cindy get the satisfaction of knowing I chickened out. So instead I’m going to go…to a wild party…on a school night…with my head held high…and butterflies in my stomach…what has happened to me?
“Alright, alright. Just making sure and remember you don’t have to do anything you don’t want to do,” Mason replies tugging me the last few feet before a huge, towering beach house comes into view. It’s only about 7:30 and already there are at least a couple dozen people holding red cups. Music is pounding from inside and chatter floats in the air.
“Ha, ha,” I laugh nervously pulling myself straight and grabbing Mason’s hand like we’re a real couple.
Mason gives me a weird look obviously not getting what’s so funny before realizing I’m nervous.
“Alex relax. I’ll be next to you the entire time!” he shouts reassuringly before leading me up the wooden steps and then into the slightly crowded hallway.
I’ve officially entered the cave.
“See? Nothing’s happened,” Mason shouts over the music.
I can already feel the slight thudding behind my head- or maybe that’s my heart.
“Yet,” I chirp watching in horror as a random brunette chugs down half a bottle of tequila right in front of me.
“And this just got stated?” I ask Mason hoping he’ll say I heard the time wrong and the party started a couple of hours ago.
“Yeah, they get pretty out of control,” Mason simply states rubbing the back of his neck like he always does when he doesn't know how I'm going to react.
I try to smile at him, but I’m pretty sure it comes out more like a wince.
Mason gently rolls his eyes before tugging me deeper into the house.
“So what do we do know?” I scream once he pulls me into the kitchen.
I have to tell you it kind of bothers me that he knows exactly where it is.
Mason laughs, grabs a beer, throws one at me, and then laughs some more. I frown at him as I carefully juggle the beer in my hand and then hold it awkwardly.
