Mason Blake: Chapter 27

                Max had left that Sunday night and since then we have been talking more and more. It’s nice to have someone to talk to and it’s nice to be able to help someone too. But deep down I can’t help but know that this is all because of what happened with Mason. I wouldn’t need anyone else to talk to or to help if things didn’t get so messed up.

                Now it’s been two weeks. Mason and the girl from the mall, Kate, are actually together now. Mason took her on a couple of dates and to no surprise he wooed her right off her feet. What is surprising is he really likes her too.

                He calls me at night sometimes to tell me about her since we don’t talk in person that much anymore. Turns out, Kate was going to transfer to our school before she met Mason, and now that she did, they are the “hot” couple in the school. So it’s hard for me to be around him now.

                I can’t deny the fact that I miss spending time with him. All the little things we used to do have been lacking lately. Mason now eats, lives, and breathes Kate…And I get to hear all about it at eleven o’ clock at night.

                So to pretty much sum it all up, life has not been that great lately. The only plus side is that Maren has been a lot less edgy and we’ve been spending a lot of time together- like before she started hating Mason. I have to admit I like that we’re slowly getting closer again. When she’s not all neurotic crazy she’s actually a really awesome friend. Julie of course comes along too and it’s like old days.

                Days without Mason.

                I walk to school slowly, dragging my feet on the sidewalk, before stopping under the huge willow tree. Winter hasn’t been that bad this year, but even with the pleasant circumstances the tree looks like a tall dead looming skeleton.

                Still it’s my favorite part of the school, and like I’ve done for the past two weeks, I walk towards it…alone. I set myself down on the ground and lean against the tree with my eyes closed. I love the feel of the slight breeze, the earthy frozen smells that come off the ground, and most of all I love the peace I get.

                The chatter of classmates and squeals of overexcited girls can’t be heard from under the tree. Besides, everyday so far this week Maren has brought me hot chocolate. Then, together we sit and talk about whatever until Julie comes and sits with us too. After, right before the bell rings, signaling for everyone to start filing in Mason waves from besides Kate.

                She, like always, seems to glow even though there’s no sun. Her hair perfectly blows in the wind and her light green eyes sparkle while her perfect white teeth shine. If Mason didn’t get to her first I’m sure there would be a line of boys waiting to get near her.

               I watch as she proceeds to laugh at something Mason says.  But before they start making out I grab my bad, sling it over my shoulder, finish scalding my tongue on the hot chocolate, and head towards first period.

                After another extremely boring day at school I head towards my BMW, drop my bag in the passenger’s seat, and get ready to start heading home. Mason now drives his Mercedes SLK to school and back home with Kate. He even opens the door and everything for her which just downright amazes me.

                Then again, Kate is frigging great.

                I’m putting the car in reverse when I hear someone knock on my window. Slightly startled I turn around to see Will with his hand half up and ready to knock again. I feel my mouth pull up into a smile as he grins at me, setting his hand back down.

                “That’s very expensive glass you’re tapping on,” I greet teasingly.

                He laughs lightly and taps the glass gain, “Rebel,” He says in response and winks.

                I chuckle before cocking an eyebrow, “So what do you want?”

                Will gives me a knowing look before shrugging. I laugh and nod.

                “Of course. Like always,”

                I can still feel the smile on my face as I pull up into the driveway. And just when I’m about to pull into the garage Mason jumps in front of the car making me scream and slam my foot on the breaks.

                “What is wrong with you?!” I yell my heart pounding in my ears.

                “Alex will you try not to kill me?” Mason asks putting a hand up to his chest and breathing slowly.

                I don’t even bother saying anything in response. Instead I wait for him to walk over to my window.

                “So I was wondering if you’d like to come over today?” Mason asks giving me a dazzling smile.

                I look at him strangely for a few seconds before I nod my head, “Um sure,”

                I turn the car off quickly before getting out and starting to walk towards his house.

                “This is sudden,” I say trying to make small talk.

                Mason smiles, “You never needed an invite before either,”

                I shrug, “You just seem so busy,” I mutter.

                “I’ll always have time for my best friend,” He replies throwing an arm over my shoulder and opening the house door with the other.

                “That’s nice to hear,” I state laying my head on his shoulder slightly like I usually do when he puts his arm over my shoulder.

                I begin to feel like things might get better again, but the feeling doesn’t last long at all.

                Right when we step into the living room I see Mrs. Blake and Kate laughing. Only Kate stops laughing to shoot daggers at me leaning into Mason.

                This is not good.

A: Alright so this was more of a filler, sorry! Anyways I’m saying 5 more chapters until the end!
