Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh he’s going to do it! He’s going to kiss me!

“How do you not feel this?” Max suddenly says quirking an eyebrow at me.

I look at him dumbfounded. Feel what? What just happened?

Max leans in slightly before grabbing a chunk of ice from my hair. I feel my cheeks grow red and I turn away in discomfort. Oh.

“Who knew little girls could be so cruel?” Max questions chuckling slightly.

I turn to see him turning the ice over in his hand before dropping it. Behind him I see the little girl still sending me an evil look. Her glove is suspiciously covered in little white specks of ice. I frown, forgetting about my embarrassment for about thirty seconds to childishly stick my tongue out at her. She pouts before ice-skating away.

“And then you call me childish,” Mason says appearing out of nowhere.

His voice sounds slightly out of breath, but I don’t bother commenting on it. Instead I give him a smile and then ask him, “So what happened to, um, I don’t know her name?”

Mason shifts his weight before looking over at Max and then at me, “She um, I uh, she was really chatty, not worth it,” Mason finishes brushing it off like nothing.

I feel my anger flare for a second. Really, first he ditches me for her and now he throws her away like she’s just a piece of meat? Boy, is he aggravating!

“Max hold on tight to me for a sec,” I ask and once I feel Max’s grip tighten I smile brightly at Mason.

“Oh so you want to ice-skate with us?” I ask acting completely normal.

Mason examines me for a few seconds before flashing me a smile and nodding his head.

And when he’s close enough I hit him so hard that he loses his balance, falling sideways onto the ice, and Max has to hug me by the waist so that we both don’t end up with Mason.

“That’s what you get for ditching me and then ditching the girl you ditched me for!” I yell smirking in pride.

Mason clenches his jaw before breaking out laughing. I smile triumphantly and out of the corner of my eye I catch a glance of Max’s confused face.

But Mason and I know what just happened. And what just happened means that nothing changed- everything’s going to be alright. We’re back to normal.

My mom  pulled back from our hug before Mason, Will, Max, and I walked back to the car. After ice-skating, buying the little bags of caramelized peanuts, and this cute painting from a stand we decided it was time to head towards the empire state building so we wouldn’t get home too late.
