~Mason~
Alex watches me curiously from the hospital bed. Her head is wrapped in bandages since she had cut it open when she fell on that jagged rock. It's weird to see her this way- with white bandages around her head and huge bags under her eyes. But at the same time I'm happy to see her this way and physically well than not alive at all. That would have killed me...my life just wouldn't be able to go on.
On other news it hadn't taken long for her to calm down and accept my presence... as long as I stay on the chair a few feet away from her. But it's a start and I'll take anything I can get. I just want her to get comfortable with my presence.
Still something deep inside me is torn. The fact that I want to be close to her and finally recognize whatever it is that bloomed the day I kissed her, and now she doesn't want anything to do with me kills. It hurts like if someone carved out my chest and left me there bleeding.
And it's only been twenty minutes since the doctor was giving Mrs. Bannon the good news that Alex would be okay. But now that's changed too. They were right, head injuries are unpredictable and even though everything seemed okay before she woke up, things aren't okay when she did. She doesn't remember anyone.
She had special interest in Mrs. Bannon when she came into the room, but it quickly faded away and then she told her that she was a very pretty nurse. I could tell the words stung Mrs. Bannon and she shook her head and walked out to face the doctor. The doctor said they would start tests in an hour considering Alex is unusually calm for someone who doesn't remember anyone. They think she might be in a state of shock and as soon as they are ready they will start examining just how much she remembers and running scans to make sure there's no permanent damage. I pray to god there isn't. They also told me it would be best for me if I just left and went home to rest.
But I can't leave. I'm sure if she stares at my face long enough she'll remember me. She has too. You can't just forget your whole life. That just...it just can't happen.
"You really don't remember me?" I whisper softly and she turns to look at me her face expressionless.
She furrows her eyebrows, "How can I remember someone I don't know?" she questions.
I grit my teeth together and hiss slightly. Her words are like little pins sticking into my skin.
"D-do you k-know who you are?" I stammer nervous she'll somehow come out of her shocked state and enter a stage of desperation.
The doctor, something Clinton, advised me against asking questions but something tells me that my Alex is in there somewhere and I just have to probe her out...
"Well of course," Alex scoffs seemingly annoyed, "I'm not stupid. I'm Alex Bannon. I'm 17. I go to Stanton High. And actually I am stupid for telling a random stranger stuff about me."
