                “Kate, what are you doing here?” Mason asks wincing slightly as he drops his arm from my shoulder.

                I immediately feel anger start to swell in the pit of my stomach as I step away from Mason.

                “Just meeting your mom at six, like you said I would,” she replies nonchalantly smiling.

                “Sweetie your friend is so nice!” Mrs. Blake states gesturing at Kate.

                “Friend?” Kate questions scrunching up her forehead.

                Mrs. Blake continues to talk oblivious, “I’m so happy you finally got a girlfriend Mason, took some motivation,” Mrs. Blake pauses referring to the motorcycle while Kate seems to recover from Mrs. Blake calling her just a friend, “But you did it and truth be told I always thought you’d guys end up together,” She gushes and walks over to pinch my cheek.

                “You’re such a beautiful girl Alex and just perfect for my Mason. You guys are like made for each other,” she finishes giving me an honest to god smile.

                I freeze while Mason chokes on air and tries to open his mouth to clarify.

                “M-m-mom what are you saying?” He stutters as Kate stands behind Mrs. Blake with her mouth half open.

                “That Alex and you make the cutest couple. I mean you can’t hide it from me! I know you Mason and I could tell that it was going to be Alex as soon as you told me you were going to be bringing your girlfriend to dinner! I just can’t believe you guys hid it from me for two weeks! I was wondering why Alex and you weren’t in the house, but now I know why,” She wiggles her eyebrows childishly and laughs slightly before preparing to continue blabbering.

                Mason cuts her off before his mom can make things worse. By now Kate has come to her senses and if looks could kill I would be six feet under already.

                “Mom, Alex is not my girlfriend. It’s Kate, I um, I just invited Alex to come to dinner too because I want them to get along and be friends since they’re both important to me,”

                Mrs. Blake’s mouth opens into an “o” shape as her whole face changes making her look shocked.

                “Oh um, my-my mistake,” She trips over her words slightly before she turns back towards Kate, “I’m so sorry sweetie, it’s just I thought, since Mason and Alex have known each other for so long, and well- never mind that now, welcome to the family!”

                Suddenly the Mrs. Blake I know is back. She straightens herself out, puts on a wide smile, and grabs Kate’s arm. She then proceeds to pull Kate into the kitchen blabbering about how special she must be for Mason if he’s actually bringing her home.

                I smile knowing she’s simply buttering Kate up so that she won’t kill me.

                “So you’re house smells amazing,” I comment and then quickly add, “Like always,”

                Mason grins agreeing with me.

                Mason’s house always smells great. Mrs. Blake is an amazing cook and there’s always some sort of hypnotizing smell wafting around his house. Also there’s always a tinge of Mason in the air and damn that boy smells good.
