The following day I woke quite abruptly to Anthony shaking my shoulders quite excitedly.
I shot up in bed and barely wiped my eyes before I answered.
"What? What's the matter?" The worry was clear in my voice.
"Come on, let's go for a walk!"
I looked at Anthony who was dressed in shorts, a white t-shirt and some tennis shoes.
"I don't know if I can after last night." I said recalling the hours of love-making we had. Don't worry, contrary to the popular saying, it was not from anal.
Anthony smirked, "Well, you're going to have a problem for life then, because I don't plan on stopping any time soon."
My body heated up, and it took everything I had to not demand him above me right then and there. Fortunately, there was a working part of me that allowed me to climb from bed and ignore his comment. I picked out a pair of jeans (that actually fit me nicely-for once) and an old Coca-Cola t-shirt. I pulled half of my hair back with some bobby pins, and then stuffed my feet into some shoes similar to the black and white converse Anthony was wearing, only a size or two smaller. Maybe three.
I followed Anthony to the front door and stopped. He turned around, a little puzzled and studied me.
"What are you waiting for, kid?" He said when I failed to speak first.
"Aren't you going to give me the sunglasses again?"
Anthony frowned, like he almost regretted making me wear them at the beach. "No. I want the public to know we're together again."
"So, we're "together", then?" I asked, smirking a little.
He sighed, but then a warm smile spread across his lips.
"If you'll have me, Lilly. Will you give me the pleasure of being my girlfriend again?"
I let out a small giggle and kissed his cheek. "The pleasure is mine, and yes, I will."
Anthony grinned and then took my hand and led me out into town. We stopped for breakfast and then walked along the streets of the small town just outside of L.A. Paparazzi snapped pictures of us here and there, but I wasn't concerned about them. It was a rather skinny young man who walked slowly and stiffly along the streets with long dark brown hair.
I had a gut wrenching feeling in my abdomen and I need a reason to get Anthony away so I could go investigate further.
"Anthony?"
"Yes, goddess?"
"Could... you, uh, go get me some tampons?"
"But you're not even on your period. I mean, I know for a fact..." He said trying not to smile proudly at the fact that he had mounted me last night quite ferociously.
"I know.. but you never know when I might." I said finally.
He sighed, "Well, why don't you come with?"
I shook my head, "I want to go get you something."
"You do, do you?"
I nodded and then gave him a gentle shove. "Go on now, slut."
He pretended to look shocked but then kissed my cheek and headed off. Once I was certain he couldn't see what I was doing, I crossed the street and ran up behind the man. The terror rose in my throat and I almost didn't tap his shoulder, but the brave little punk in me, forced me to.
He spun around, and the sight of John nearly ripped me apart. His eyes widened slightly, and he seemed to mutter my name but no words came out. He pulled his tattered and dirty shirt up and forced a smile. His teeth were yellow and his eyes stung with redness.
"John.." I said nearly unable to stop from crying.
He bowed his head. "I..I've missed you."
I immediately pulled him into my arms and crushed him in a hug. I felt how cold he was, and knew that the rumors Anthony had been hearing were true, and it hurt me all the more to see them. I kissed John's head and wiped the tears that had escaped.
He looked up at me, and his eyes were blurry as well.
I stared at him for another moment, but knew I had to go because Anthony wasn't going to take three days buying me tampons.
I handed down my leftover breakfast that was neatly packed in a brown bag and smiled weakly.
"You should probably eat the rest of my food." I said poking one of his ribs that was sticking out.
John's lips quivered. He said nothing. I heard Anthony call out my name and my heart sank. I wanted more time to plead for John to stop, but I knew it wouldn't do much. Instead, I brushed a piece of hair behind his ear and smiled.
"Be good, John."
I ran back to where Anthony was standing, acting like I hadn't just seen one of my closer friends high off of crack.
