"Lilly?" A sweet voice called to me.
I tossed in bed, feeling lighter than before.
"Lilly, it's okay to wake up." The voice was cheerful, chuckling a bit.
I sighed, but pushed my body up. When I opened my eyes, I immediately remembered what had happened in the last 36 hours.
I was laying in a hospital room, with a pale blue smock on with black dots in white bed sheets. There were flowers scattered all over the room and pink balloons that said, "It's A Girl!"
Still in a daze, I looked around the room. I saw Anthony sitting in the blue upholstered chair and smiled. His hair was in a pony-tailed mess, with strands falling out in little curls. It had really gotten long. His eyes were wrinkled and creased with exhaustion. Somehow I felt he hadn't slept once in the day and half since I arrived.
"Hey." He said simply, smiling like a saving angel.
I sighed and just grinned back.
Anthony got up from the chair and walked to the bed where he sat on the edge.
"How are you feeling, mom?"
The word made me feel happy. I was a.. a mom. I couldn't believe it.
"Fine, sore..." I smiled.
"You did a great job." Anthony said, his eyes swelling with clearness of pride and drops of tears.
He grabbed my hand and brought it up to his mouth where he pressed gently against it with his mouth.
"Where is she?" I asked right away, now remembering the excruciating pain I went through to push that watermelon out.
"The nurse had her while you were sleeping. Hold on a second mommy, I'll go fetch the little terd."
I smiled at Anthony, who bolted out the hospital room door, even though he seemed like he couldn't stand to stay awake any longer. I waited about ten minutes for him to return, but when he did he was carrying a bundle of pink blankets that had arrived on May 8th, 1995. He walked over to the bed and very carefully, and skillfully I might add, handed me our angel.
As I peered down at her smooth, white face, I gazed into the brown orbs that looked down on me when I woke up in his bed the night after I was assaulted. I saw the eyes of the man I loved and adored, the man I wanted to give everything to. Annastasia had Anthony's eyes and I knew she would have his perfect soul and mind.
She would be another reason for me to get up in the morning and I know everyone in our family would love her. Clara would be super fucking excited to know she had a new friend to play with finally, and Flea is going to give her a million kisses. Chad is going to call her a booger and teach her the drums as soon as she can get a firm grip on the stick. John is going to fall in love with her.
With the free hand I had, I grabbed Anthony's hand and held it tighter than I've ever held it.
"She's beautiful." I said, tears falling down my cheeks.
He only smiled. "I know."
