"Now, Mouse, I expect the best behavior possible. One step out of line and you will be punished." His deep voice travelled to me as the grip on my arm tightened. Allison stood behind us, her eyes on the floor. Goliath had questioned her attire but didn't say a word against it.
"Mouse?!" I growled as I scrunched my nose.
"Yes, I believe it quite suits you my little Elvin princess." At the shock written on my face he smiled. "You might hide it well, but nothing gets past me."
I ripped my arm from his grip before crossing them over my chest.
"Both of you are to answer every question from tonight with complete honesty. I have never lied to my people, and I won't start now. Be prepared for a lot of things, there will be a lot of people and all of them will be vying for your attention and affection. You, Mouse, are not allowed to leave my side."
"My name is Syndra. Not Mouse."
"Have I made myself clear, Mouse?" I felt his breath on my ear as he leaned closer, a shiver trailed down my spine as I drank in his life energy. His power. I found myself leaning into him as he pulled away. Intoxicating.
I yanked away from him as though I'd been burned before smoothing my palms against the skirt.
"One more thing, Mouse. You are mine, and I expect you to let every soul you are going to encounter know it."

I sat next to His Royal Highness on an elevated platform. The golden throne under me was quite comfortable, which is the only reason I didn't complain. Dinner had been quite the spectacular event. Trays upon trays had been wheeled into the room, serving every kind of food you could imagine. I had thought it would be a tight fit, with all the people. However, Goliath and I sat on the thrones, separated from the rest of the guests, with a table in front of us and our own feast. Once everyone had finished, slaves rushed in and whisked the tables and empty platters away, leaving behind an overly large room.
"You know, you're not quite king yet." I said with a sneer.
"Do you doubt me, little one?"
"There is nothing to doubt with your... prowess. I'm merely stating the fact that you have not conquered all territories yet."
"My sweet, I am the grandson of the late King Dragda. The world, his people, decided to take his reign from him when they killed him and ruined the dictatorship. My father spent his whole life raising me, training me, for this. To regain the throne, to lead the people as one for a greater cause. I have waited hundreds of years for this chance. Now, with only one territory left, I will take what I want and kill those who defy to rightfully gain my seat."
"And these people just follow you?"
"Most of these men and women were under my grandfathers rule. When the kingship diminished the individual lands broke into sections with Alphas. It's as if, they've just divided into small territories with their own leaders. Pitiful."
I rolled my eyes. I had no doubt he would achieve his goal, hell, he was more than half way there already.
"May I ask you something, Mouse?"
"I suppose." I turned my body in his direction after taking a glass of champagne off a passing tray.
"Why are you not mad about your father?"
I pursed my lips at the open curiosity he presented.
"Honestly? The man you killed was not my birth father. My birth parents sent me to the man you killed to go into hiding. An Elvin princess is a very big target."
"Ah, I see. And your ears?"
"My real father, his ears were cut off by a hunter when he was young. My mother caught my father in the middle of his attempt to clip my ears. He only got to finish one before she stopped him. That is why I have one normal ear, and one pointed."
"That must have hurt." He whispered. I looked into his beautiful violet eyes, sensing no pity, only sympathy. "Did no one hear your cries?"
"It was excruciating, however A good child does not protest or yell out when the king does something for their own good." I mumbled, reciting the words my father had told me.
"I would never clip a child's ears. I would slaughter anyone who tried to hurt them."
And for the first time, I began to see the beautiful beast before me in a new light.
