True to his word, the glorious woman left within the next few days. The joy that coursed through me was indescribable. I stood on the steps leading outside, Allison next to me, and smiled as I watched Lucille carry her own bags to the carriage.
Goliath had come to see her off, and ended up giving her a pouch of gold coins for her journey home. Allison snickered at that, finding it amusing that the woman had made off with more of the mans money.
Afterwards, I didn't see Elric. Regan came to my room while I was dressing, and although he tried his hardest not to look I could feel his eyes roaming my body. He picked out a regal black gown, unlike my usual look, with high black heels.
"I know you're not used to shoes, so if you fall I'm sure Elric will forgive you." Regan had joked. "The others, I'm not so sure."
"The others?"
"The council is here. That's why Elric hasn't been up everyone's ass today."
The council. His words hung over me like a bad omen.
"His rejection of Lucille has intrigued them. She was practically bred to be a queen. They never expected him to let her go. I see you're opting for no panties, you naughty woman."
I allowed him to hold the dress as I stepped into it, all the while I was glaring.
"Why are they here? How does the council work now? Do they control Elric?" I had an endless amount of questions. Before, the council had been the group of individuals hanging over everyone's head. They were in charge of everything, alphas couldn't take a shit without them saying when and how long they could take. My mother. She had been a part of the council before I was sent away. I felt the blood drain from my face. Father.
"They have known of Elric for a long time, they were the first group of people he put down. Now, they work under him, and give him advice for what hey believe should be done. Not that the stubborn cad listens."
Regan zipped the back of my dress and ran his hands down the sides, gripping my hips.
"Put the shoes on." He ordered as I watched him turn away and rifle through my jewelry. Gold rings were placed on nearly every finger, and a gold headband gently wound onto my head. It rested on my forehead, the dangle coming to a halt just above the spot between my brows.
"You're beautiful, Syndra." Regan whispered as he placed his fingers through my hair. Allison had come to help me put it up, a few strands surrounding my face. Regan had ordered her to leave once I had applied my makeup, which was different than usual. Forgoing the cats eye that Seers normally wore, I was ordered to just apply a thin line on my top lid. Although, everything was unusual today.
"You need to put on this lipstick, Elric specifically requested it." Regan had a frown on his face as he produced a small bowl of liquid. "I picked it from the richest berries, and Allison ground them up for you."
I watched, skeptical, as Regan dipped a brush in the liquid and began painting my lips a dark red.
"I can see why he asked for you to wear this. The color nearly matches your hair, and makes your eyes pop even more."
I glanced up and noticed Allison standing in the doorway. She wore one of the dresses I had given her, the almost sheer fabric hugged her curves and outlined every wonderful asset she had. Her blond hair hung in waves and she even wore a pair of heels similar to mine.
"You look beautiful, dear friend." I murmured as I walked to envelope her in a hug.
"You can actually walk in shoes!" Regan yelped as I strode past him.
"I said I prefer not to wear shoes, not that I've never worn them."
"We're late! Let's go before His Highness rips my head off!" Allison began to run down the hall and I finally felt my nerves jump. My parents could be here.
