Chapter thirty-four

The closer it came to my delivery the worse my mood got. I knew bringing these children into the world was my purpose, and I knew I would die in the end. I had begged, even pleaded for a child and now that I was having one I was sentenced to death. The only person I shared my news with, was Allison, and I hadn't even told her the full truth. I just mentioned that I may need help feeding the children. It was not uncommon for a woman to hire a milk maid, especially if there were many young who needed a feeding. I just prayed Allison could take on the task. Guilt wracked me as I lay on the bed. Two months had passed since Elric's leaving and I'd only grown weaker. I couldn't even step out of bed without collapsing. My bones were as fragile as a flower, by body slowly deteriorating as my young sucked the power from my veins. I knew with a fact that my days were numbered.
Eve stirred next to me, she'd taken to sharing my bed, feeding power to my children. Her mother had been popping in and out every few hours to check on me. Regan was the face of the kingdom for now, relaying news and helping me make decisions. According to eve, I was not allowed out of bed. I drank her teas to help calm my stomach multiple times a day, and ate like a starving man. My babies hadn't moved much in the last few days, running out of room as they grew. I feared I wouldn't make it to their birth.
"Eve." I whispered.
"Yes?"
"I need a favor."
"Anything."
"If I do not make it, I wish for you to stay and aid Elric with the babes. I know in my heart the gods will honor you if you do this for me."
"Syn, do not speak like this. You are one of the most powerful seers in the world. You will survive this, you will go on to complete your purpose."
I glanced away from her as her eyes turned white and her hands cupped my belly.
"They know who you are, Syn. They hear your voice and their hearts flutter." Eve whispered.
"What the hell is going on here?"
