Chapter 34: Who is it?

Jack's POV:

I watch Autumn sleep for a few minutes then I get up and off the bed, I trot to the door before shifting back into my human form. I slip out of the door and close it softly then walk to the council hall and pause listening at the door.

"We must find out who did this to them!" I hear Angel cry.

"They are here no? They are both fine aren't they?" was the reply that made my blood boil.

I storm in slamming the doors open, "NO THEY AREN'T BOTH FINE! YOUR QUEEN IS STILL UNDER THE EFFECT OF THAT DAMNED DRUG!" I roar.

"Jack calm down please." Angel says his eyes round as the other council members go quite.

"Calm down?!? CALM DOWN?!? HOW CAN I CALM DOWN WHEN THESE OLD COOTS WON'T DO ANYTHING TO FIND OUT WHO DID THIS TO US!"

"You just don't know how it's done here Jack."

"That's King Jack to you, and if you aren't going to do anything my wolves and I will. And I can guarantee that if it's a vampire you will not be the ones to bring punishment down upon them. By sitting there and openly saying that you aren't going to do anything because we are still here and breathing you forfeited any and all right to judge anyone. In fact once the Queen wakes I will inform her of what you have said and we shall have a discussion on whom to replace you lot with." I snap before storming out.

I'm not surprised when I hear Angel hurry out of the room and come running after me. I stop and turn and raise an eyebrow, he stops a few feet short of me and watches me warily.

"I just wanted to know..."

"If I meant what I said?" 

He nods and I watch him tremble slightly as my eyes narrow.

"Yes I did." I turn and continue walking away.

I don't take my time walking through the castle instead I shift and run through it to my wolves. I bark for their attention then I wait for them to shift so that we can talk. Instead of saying anything I show them my memories of the attack and of how Autumn was, and still is. They whimper together as I show them the images.

"What do you want us to do Alpha?"  I hear my second in command Tina ask as her brown wolf sits beside my black one.

"Find the one responsible and bring them to me." 

They all nod then bow slightly and trot off, Tina stays by my side and looks up at me her eyes questioning. I shake my head then stand up, as I had sat down, turn and trot off towards Autumn's room. Once I get there I turn human and slip back into the room, across the room and back into bed before she even noticed I was gone. I watch her sleep smoothing away any sign of a nightmare with a kiss on her forehead. Eventually I fall asleep myself, I wake up to someone touching my cheek. 

"Autumn." I say as soon as my eyes open and I see her looking at me. 

"Morning Jackie." she smiles.

"Feeling better my love?"

"Yes I am." she says while snuggling closer to me.

I smile and wrap my arms around her and hold her tightly, we stay like that until we hear a knock on the door. I look at the door as Archie pokes his head in.

"You two awake?"

"Yup, and we are fully clothed too."

"Oh well clothing is optional, I am the doctor. Anyway how are you feeling Autumn?" Archie chatters as he walks over to Autumn's side of the bed.

She smiles at him then sits up, "I'm feeling a lot better today Archie."

"That's good, but even so I need to take a sample of your blood and give you this to make sure that the drug is for sure gone from your system." Archie smiles handing her a drink before taking out a needle. 

I watch as Autumn sits still while Archie sticks the needle into her arm and within a few minutes the syringe is full of her blood and he's packing it up. She sips the drink he handed her then makes a face.

"Eyugh!" 

"Yes forgot to warn you about that, it tastes nasty but it works on getting things out of the system." Archie smiles.

Autumn pinches her nose and chugs the rest of the contents before handing Archie back the bottle. She makes a face then her eyes get big and she is suddenly darting for the bathroom. I follow her and get there just in time to hold her hair back while she throws up into the toilet. I rub her back in a circular motion to try to help her relax a bit as her body shakes. I look up when I hear Archie in the door.

"So it works even on this. Hmm odd, I must go back to my lab and try to figure this out. Perhaps her blood will help me figure it out." he muses to himself while scribbling down notes.

I watch him walk away until Autumn turns around and snuggles in close to me. I hold her and rub her back softly until I hear her snore lightly. I smile then pick her up and take her back to bed. I lay her on my usual side so that she's surrounded by my scent then I turn and trot out of the room. I head towards where I can smell my pack gathering.

"Have you found anything yet?" I growl softly.

"No we haven't, whoever it is is good at it." Tina says looking worried.

I can tell everyone is watching me as I look around taking in our surroundings. 

"So what you're saying is that out of all the noses here, all of the ears that are finely tuned to catch the slightest sound and absolutely NO ONE HAS FOUND ANYTHING?!?!? I AM YOUR ALPHA AND KING! SOMEONE MADE AN ATTEMPT ON NOT ONLY MY LIFE BUT MY MATES AS WELL!!" I snarl looking at them finally.

All of them, except Tina, flinch from me.

"Jack go look after Autumn, we will keep looking for the person or persons responsible for this attack on you and Autumn."  Tina says.

I start to growl but then I shake my head and walk away back to the room where Autumn is sitting sipping some blood from a cup. 

"Where did you go? I remember being in the bathroom and then I woke up here without you." she frowns slightly.

"My pack needed me for a few minutes. Sorry love being an Alpha to a pack means when they call I have to go." I smile softly before kissing her forehead.

She seems to like that answer because she goes back to her blood as I sit down beside her. She crawls onto my lap and snuggles close to me, I smile and wrap my arms around her enjoying the snuggles. We sit there like that for a few hours and I relax happily.
