"Connect me to the mind." Vixus said quietly.

"Please stand by for connection," replied the AI's female voice.

A moment later a hologram of a brain popped up.

"This is an outrage!" Vixus couldn't manage to control the rage in his voice.

"Vixus. Remember your place." A voice came from the other end. It was neither robotic nor human. It was somewhere in between.

"Apologies, I was being rash there."

"Overruled."

"Why did you interfere with me?"

"You are not in the position to question my general actions."

"Very well, a different question. Why the bastard mercenary?"

No answer, as Vixus expected.

"The thief?"

No answer, as Vixus expected.

"The Japanese girl?"

No answer, again.

"Why Acott's daughter?"

No answer, like Vixus expected.

"My final question, why Ling?"

There was a moment of silence, and then the other end spoke, which Vixus did not expect.

"His time has not come. His purpose is not yet served."

"What does that mean?"

The usual silence. Vixus was tired of it and he hung up.

When his time has come, he will lose in despair, and die in vain. Vixus thought.
