Chapter 17: Things Need to Change Around Here

Episode 13

This was it: my first day of being a nurse. I went to see the surgeon there named Pete. He was a nice man. I brought all my medical books and notes with me.

"Whoa, you're really eager to learn," he smiled.

"I learned from a very good friend. His name was Hershel, Maggie's father. He may have been a veterinarian, but he still taught me some really good stuff. He's dead now. I promised that I would honor him with everything I've learned," I explained.

"Well, I'm sorry for the loss of your friend. Shall we?" he asked.

"Sure," I said.

He taught me some things I already knew and things I didn't know about. I took the notes as I listened. We decided to practice, so he brought a dummy and asked certain questions like "If someone has an infection, how do you treat it?" or "If someone was shot, how do you help them so they don't bleed out?" I answered all the questions correctly and when it was over, I went to Carl's and my room. I heard there was going to be a party at Deanna's so I decided to take a shower and curl my hair. I found this cute outfit, but it still made me look tough. It was a long sleeved shirt that had a V-neck along with a gray, spiked leather vest, along with purple leggings, a dark purple skirt, and black combat boots. I noticed Carl walk in and he loved it.

"Whoa, you look amazing," he complemented.

"Thank you. And you look handsome as always," I replied and kissed him.

"I just have one thing for you," he said, reached in his pocket, and pulled out a necklace.

"Oh Carl, it's beautiful," I responded.

"I made it. Turn around and I'll put it on you," he said.

I did and lifted my hair. I watched as the necklace fit perfectly. He kissed my neck in the process and I leaned into him. We finally left for the party. We met Deanna's husband, Reg and they met Pete, who was Jesse's husband. We hung out with Ron and Mikey a little bit. Carl then grabbed my hand and snuck us out to where we made it on the roof.

"I'm really glad you did, but why did you sweep me off my feet and take me to the roof?" I wondered.

"I thought that you'd like to look at the stars for a while," he answered.

"Okay," I replied then added, "I haven't done this since the apocalypse started."

"I've never done this before, but I thought you'd like it," Carl responded.

"I do. But it makes it so much better since I'm with the man I love," I said.

We looked at each other and kissed. It became a full-on make out session until we heard our names being called. We sighed annoyingly, knowing it was Rick.

"Let's go, Sheriff," I ushered.

"Can we finish later tonight?" Carl smirked.

I kissed him then asked, "Does that answer your question?"

We went back down and enjoyed the rest of the party. When it was over, as usual, I kept my promise to Carl.

The next morning, I felt Carl kiss me awake again. Luckily, I was off that day, so I spent the whole day with him. I would try to distract him when he played video games, when we read a comic book, I laid on his chest while he read aloud, and we also went outside the walls for a while to kill some walkers. Today was one of the best days ever.

Episode 14

When I woke up, I looked at Carl who was asleep. I kissed him and a few seconds later, I felt him kiss back since our lips were in sync and I felt his hand on the back of my head. We parted and looked into each other's eyes.
