Chapter 23: What Do We Do Now?

Carl was throwing darts at the wall. Okay, he was aiming at the board, but he and Rick were having an argument while Aaron, Michonne, and I were just watching. Finally, when they were done, Rick and Aaron left while Michonne told us that she had something to take care of, so she left too.

"Carl, I agree that your dad is wrong about this, but we need to think of this calmly and rationally," I said.

"I know. But the sooner Negan is dead, the better off Alexandria will be," he responded, cupping my face.

He kissed me then we looked out the window to Enid climbing the wall again. We went out there and she said she needed to see Maggie at the Hilltops. Carl apologized to her for locking her in the armory closet. Once she left, Carl dragged me to a car.

"What are we doing?" I asked.

"We're going after her," he answered, getting in the driver seat.

I got in the passenger seat and wondered, "You've practiced driving, right?"

"Nope," he said and started the engine.

We went outside the gate and as we got closer to this gas station, we saw Enid and a walker. Carl floored it and hit the walker, which went over the car. When we saw the walker get up, Carl put the car in reverse and rammed it. I breathed heavily.

"You okay?" he asked.

"Yeah. Just remind me to never let you drive again," I smiled.

He chuckled as we noticed Enid come up to us. We got out of the car and we started walking and talking for a while. Carl even found roller skates and we had some fun. He almost fell and Enid and I caught him. As we kept going, we saw Negan's group at the Hilltops.

"I'm gonna go scout the area. I'll be back," I said.

As I was walking away, I looked behind and saw Carl kissing Enid's forehead; I figured it was to tell her that everything would be okay. But then what really shocked me was that Enid kissed Carl. He was shocked as soon as she stopped and so was I. She left him with a slight smile on her face. I came back out and when he looked back at me, he looked like he didn't know what to say.

"Look, if you saw what happened, you should know that she kissed me and I didn't know what to do. I didn't kiss her back--" he started.

He was interrupted by me kissing him. He was shocked but soon relaxed and kissed back. We parted to breathe.

I looked at him and replied, "Remember, I know you would never do that to me. I love you."

He smiled and said, "I love you too. Now I need you to do me a favor."

"Okay," I responded.

"Go back to Alexandria and take care of my dad and Judith. I'll be back soon," he instructed.

"Are you planning on sneaking on to the truck? Because if you are, I won't let you. I've come so close to losing you twice already and I'm not doing that again," I denied.

"Trust me. This is to keep you guys safe. I promise I'll come back. Just keep them safe. I love you," he replied then kissed me.

When we parted, I sighed then answered, "Fine. I'll do it for them and you. I love you too."

I hugged him and he left to one of the trucks. Little did he know of the radio I snuck in his pocket. He's really something, but when Enid gets back, I'm gonna have a little chat with her, as in probably slapping her to death. But that wasn't the issue right now; I was too busy worrying about Carl.
