Chapter 1

August 2011

Eliza was unpacking from being gone all summer. Penelope was already unpacked and waiting for an invite to the exclusive Conspicuous Callers party that they hosted every year to welcome the students back to school. Charles Elliot, a member of this group, had been trying to get Eliza to go on a date with him all summer. He and Penelope lived in the same town so it was hard to not run into him. Eliza got this weird feeling that Charles was watching her. When Eliza thought that she was alone with no one to disturb her. Charles would show up out of nowhere, it kind of freaked her out. Eliza took a deep breath trying to forget Charles for the moment and put the last of the clothes she had packed away. There was knock on the door so, Eliza went to the door and opened it. Victor Ziegler, a member of the Conspicuous Callers, said, "I have come to invite Penelope Dawson and Eliza Pope to the party tonight at 4345 East Drive."

Penelope jumped up from her bed, went to the door, and quickly said, "We gladly accept your invitation."

"Be there promptly at ten pm." Victor said smiling.

Penelope shut the door, grabbed Eliza's hands, and spun her around the room. When they were standing still agian Eliza asked, "Why did you accept for the both of us?"

"I accepted for both of us because you need to get out and meet some new people. Besides, I do not want to go by myself. Please..." Penelope said with a puppy dog face.

"Fine but, the next time there is a play you have to go with me no arguments."

"Deal" Penelope said smiling. "I think you should wear that black sweater dress with that silver belt with those grey half boots."

"I would, except I did not bring that outfit back." Eliza said going to her closet, pulled out a plaid mini skirt, red sweater, black tights, and black high-heeled ankle boots. "What about this?" Eliza asked holding up the outfit.

"That is perfect. I will change then I will do your hair." Penelope said starting to change. Eliza followed suite and changed clothes. When Penelope finished her own hair and make-up she turned to Eliza and said, "We must hurry if we are to be there on time." Penelope had Eliza sit in a chair where she could not see herself in a mirror. Penelope used the big curling iron that she had heated up earlier, created huge curls in Eliza's brown hair, used some bobby pins to keep' it from getting her eyes, sprayed Eliza's hair with hairspray, quickly applied some make-up, and put on Eliza's jewelrty.

Eliza stood, went to the full length mirror on the back of their door, and looked at her appearance. Eliza turned to Penelope and said, "Thank you Penny. I look completely different."

"No, you still look like yourself yourself just more enhanced. Grab a purse and let's go." Penelope said looking at the clock. Eliza grabbed an over the shouldger handbag, waited for Penelope to leave the room, and locked the door behind her. Penelope drove to 4345 East Drive and had to drive to the third house down to find an empty parking spot. Penelope said, "We were almost late. Are you ready?"

"As ready as I will ever be." Eliza said smiling.

"Please try and have a good time." Penelop said squeezing Eliza's hand before knocking on the door.
