Chapter 18

Chapter 18

Something was wrong with Veronica but, Charles could not tell what. Since they had not mated yet it was just vague vibes and it was a jumbled mess to try to sort out. Charles was on a flight back home so that he and Veronica could travel back to school together. Veronica threw her arms around Charles as soon as he was standing in front of her. Charles asked, "Are you alright honey?"

"I am much better now that you are here. Let's go get your bags and head to your place." Veronica said glancing around nervously as she grabbed Charles's hand and started walking toward baggage claim. Charles thought that it was safest to stay silent and not pester Veronica with questions until they were at his home.

Charles grabbed his bag as it came around on the baggage claim conveyer belt. Charles noticed that Veronica kept glancing around like a frightened animal. Charles stopped Veronica from walking, pulled her to him, and kissed her passionately. After a few seconds Charles pulled away and asked, "Feel better?"

"I feel much better thank you. Are you ready to get going?"

"I am ready as long as you are honey." Veronica nodded and then continued to walk toward the exit. Charles followed her out of the airport, to the parking structure where her car was parked, got into the car after putting his luggage in the trunk. Veronica drove silently to Charles's house.

Once they were in Charles's room Veronica broke down into tears. Charles quickly had Veronica in his arms and asked, "Honey what is the matter? Why are you crying?"

Veronica took a few minutes to calm down before saying, "My father is the leader of the Rouge wolves that have been giving your pack so much trouble."

"What!" Charles says shocked.

"I swear to you I didn't know. My father told me while you were gone. When you told me that you were a werewolf it was the first time that I had heard of them. My father then told me that you were my mate because you had told me that you were a werewolf. If I wasn't I would have stayed oblivious to their existence. He forbade me to tell you any of this but, since I am not a werewolf I do not have to follow his command but, if he finds out that I told you he would hurt me."

"I am not going to let that happen. Do you know what Hank is planning?"

"He has been recruiting rouges from the states nearby. They have formed a rouge pack with him as the leader. He is talking about taking out the smaller packs before hitting yours because it would give the wolves of his pack practice before the big fight and it would also take out your allies which would leave you vulnerable and without enough wolves to fight all of the wolves that he has."

"You understand as the Beta of my pack I have an obligation to tell Colin. Colin needs to warn the other Alphas and try to recruit more packs to help."

"I do understand that but, I am worried that it will get out that I have spilled the beans."

"I will move you into the house that we have off of campus. You will be better protected there and we can spend more time together."

"I would like that." Veronica said putting her arms around my waist.

"Call your dad and let him know that you are staying with me tonight. We have many things to do before you go back to your house." Charles said stroking Veronica's hair. After Veronica had phoned her dad and gotten the okay to stay over Charles had her change into one of his t-shirts and get comfortable on the bed. Charles looked at Veronica and said, "I do not want you to feel pressured to do anything that you do not want to but, you know that you are going to have to back to your dad's until we go back to school. You are more than welcome to stay over here as much as you want and are allowed to."

"I know I will have to go back but, having this time right now is good enough for me. We will see how often I can be though I can find out more if I am at my home more often. What is going to happen to my father?"

"That will be up to Colin honey. If he continues gain support from other Rouges than we are in serious trouble; we have enough trained wolves to fight off a small army of them but, a big one I am not so sure."

"I will see if I can find out how many wolves he has. Do you think that they will use weapons against you?"

"It is a possibility since, your father is clearly far more domesticated than most Rouge's are but, he may have a harder time trying to get the other Rouge wolves to become domestic again."

"That may be. Why don't you call Colin while I go take a bath?"

"Sounds like a good idea to me." Charles says with a small smile. As soon as the bathroom door was shut Charles picked up his phone and called Colin.

Colin picked up and said, "Hey Charles, no trouble on your journey I hope."

"No trouble at all. We have a problem however."

"And what would that be?"

"Veronica's father Hank is the leader of the Rouge faction in Washington."

"How is that even possible?"

"I have not gotten all of the details for Veronica but, maybe we can do that together when we get back to school. All I know is that Hank is planning on striking the smaller packs around us so that we do not have the numbers to fight him off when he finally comes for us. If Hank finds out that Veronica has told us he will probably do something to her."

"I agree with you on that. What have you decided to do about this threat to her?"

"I asked her to move into the Conspicuous Caller house. It is the safest place for her to be."

"I agree with you but, do you not think that it would look extremely oblivious that something is going on if she moves in there fist thing?"

"I did not even think of that. I just want her to be as protected as possible."

"Well, Eliza and Penelope can help for at least the first month. After that you can ask her and she can call her father and be really excited about moving in with you. He will think that he has gotten the perfect in. I need you to try and get all of the details about Veronica's past as possible unless you think it will be safer to do it here a school."

"I am going to ask that you give me your honest opinion before I do anything. There may be spies at school that are working for Hank. He is a lot more domesticated than most Rouge wolves which, means that there are more. We need to be on our guard and trying to figure out who they are."

"I agree with you on that. It may be safer for you to try and get her to talk while you have Veronica at your house. You would be able to tell if it were bugged or not."

"True and my parents would never let a stranger into the house they would know if they were Rouges."

"Alright Charles I need to go but, we will talk more about this when we get back to school."

"Thanks for everything Colin."

"You are welcome Charles. Talk to you later."

"Bye." I say hanging up. Charles sighs in relief before getting off of his bed, and changing into a pair of pajama pants. Charles discards his cloths from the day in his hamper in the closet before lying down in his bed. Charles looks at Veronica as soon as she comes out of the bathroom and has to hold in a lustful growl. Her legs looked extremely long because his shirt fell almost to her knees. Veronica smiled before placing her folded clothes on his desk and crawling into Charles's bed next to him. Charles turned on the television and asked, "How are you feeling?"

"I am feeling much better now that we have talked and I had a relaxing bath."

"That is good to hear. Why don't you get some sleep sweet pea, I know you are exhausted."

"Alright sugar." Veronica said placing her head on Charles chest before closing her eyes. Charles closed his own eyes and fell into a peaceful sleep. Tomorrow would be a very long day for both of them.
