Section 1
Certain issues within Christianity
This section comprises of articles that are targeted at certain
Christian doctrine, and elaboration of these doctrines.
Article 1 - On staying celibate and on Holy matrimony
This article is a response to the numerous pastors and Christians (especially
from Asia) telling single Christians that they must marry and have a family.
Some quote Scripture to be "fruitful and multiply". Others quote the Genesis
account where "it is not good for man to be alone". Similarly, many hold
the mistaken view that the original biblical purpose of marriage is for
women to be nothing more than to be obedient partners to their husbands.
This article thus seeks to address these issues.
In the many promises God made to the Patriarchs, one prominent
blessing is the birth of many offspring. As long as the children of God
listened and obeyed His commandments, they were blessed with many
children of their own. While the original order of marriage was a
monogamous one, in which Eve was created as a companion, and a helpmeet
to Adam (KJV Genesis 2:18: And the LORD God said, It is not good
that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.), the
whole marriage plan ceased to function as it should following the Fall.
Eve was not made a slave or an obedient wife to Adam, but as a
companion and a helper. In fact, it is for the very purpose to jointly serve
God was man to join as one with the wife. And for the focus of God in mind,
would a son leave his family to be ONE flesh with the wife.
Genesis 2:24: Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and
shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
There was no subservience or dominance implied in the becoming of
one. To be one, is to be complete. And to be complete, is to be complete in
serving God together. However, after the Fall, the perfect arrangement fell.
Genesis 3:16: Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow
and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire
shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
After the fall, the woman's desire was to be her husband. In here, one
interpretation is that her sole desire would be to own and control her
husband, but her husband will rule over her. The oneness is no more. Even
together by marriage, it is now a struggle of the wife to own her husband,
and her husband to rule over her wife. Male chauvinistic indeed it is. But is
it really? 1 Corinthians explains more.
1 Corinthians 7:1-4: Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me:
