Broken Pieces Part 4

*Selena's POV*

I walked over to the sofa and sat next to Justin. I took his hands in mine, looking him in the eye, "What is it, Justin?"

He looked at me with nervous eyes, "Promise me something first. Promise that you'll listen to all that I have to say, and that you won't get mad and that we will talk this out."

I slowly scooted away, "Justin you're scaring me... What did you do?"

He looked at me intently, "Promise me."

"I promise," I braced myself closing my eyes, preparing for what was to come.

"I went to lunch with Kate today."

"Really Justin?" I sighed in relief. "You freaked me out to tell me that?" Yeah I was mad that he went behind my back to do that, but I was glad it wasn't anything worse.

"I'm not done," he stated.

'Oh no. This was not good at all' the little voice in my head kept shouting. "Okay?"

"And we got talking and do you remember that little girl that was with her in the store the other day?"

I nodded not quite sure where he was going with this.

"Kate told me that-that...she's my daughter."

There's no way this was happening. I wasn't going to believe it. "Justin, you know people say that kind of stuff all the time. She just wants the money."

"That's the thing we went to the hospital right after and got an immediate blood test done and it's true."

My heart dropped through the floor and I dropped Justin's hands, standing up and taking a few steps back. I used my hands to cover my face, trying to take it all in.

"Sel, listen. Kate said that she doesn't want anything from me, from us. She said that I don't have to be in Emma's life if I don't want. I told her that I would talk to you and that even if I said I did want to be in her life you come along with that, and she is okay with that. So now it's up to you if we want to be in her life."

How could he shove this all on me, all at once? How was this supposed to make me feel? Did he expect me to say 'oh you have a kid? Great! Tell her to come on over!' No, I was not going to do that. And why would Kate just now tell Justin this? Why did she contact him 4 years ago when she got pregnant?

"Justin...I can't do this."

"Sel," he said stepping closer to me making me move back, "okay I'll tell her no. We can go back to normal."

"No Justin! We can't 'go back to normal'!" I yelled using my fingers to put quotation marks. "You have a child! A daughter! How am I supposed to win? I say no and I'm a bad guy because I keeping you from your daughter and I'm taking Emma's, or whatever her name is, dad away from her. And then if I say yes, I'm miserable. I have to see living proof of you sleeping with someone else. I see her playing with you and I picture you with Kate. And Kate gets to be in our life until Emma's 18 or even older! I can't handle that! I'm sorry. I-I just can't do it anymore."

"You're going to just give up just like that? Throw away 3 years of a relationship over this?" Justin challenged as I got up to grab my stuff. 

I picked up my purse and grabbed the doorknob. I stopped when I heard him whisper, "Selena please?"

I closed my eyes and turned the knob slamming the door behind me. I ran to my car and let the emotions take me over.

*Justin's POV*

I let my body slid down the wall and let myself cry everything out. Was it really over or did she just need some space?

I crawled over to my phone sliding it unlocked and calling my go-to-guy. "Fredo, I need you to come over. Now."

"Are you okay?" he asked through the phone sounding worried. I could even hear the sound of his car engine starting in the background.

"She left," I said all I could.

He gasped knowing exactly what I meant. "I'll be there in 5 minutes."

I didn't bother getting up off the floor or even wiping away the tears that were still streaming down my face.

How could she give up on us so easily? Did we mean nothing? Was our relationship nothing?

I slid the unlock icon on my phone once again, when the door opened and Alfredo came rushing in. "Okay bro. What happened? I want to know everything."

I collected myself, and relocked my phone before pulling myself onto the sofa. "I ran into Kate when Sel and I went to get her an engagement ring yesterday."

"You got engaged?! Hello? Why am I just now hearing about this?"

I looked at him blankly before continuing what I was saying, "And so we had been texting and we went to lunch today."

"Bro, why would you do that?" he intruded for the second time.

"You gonna let me finished?" I snapped at him. "Sorry, but she had a little girl with her and come to find out, the little girl is my daughter."

"Whoa." He stared shocked at me. "I'm guessing Sel didn't take that too well?"

I shook my head rubbing my temples, sighing, "What am I going to do man? I love her so much. She's the one."

"I think you have to show her that you're serious about this relationship. That she means the world to you. Show her that having a child won't change what the two of you have."

"I already proposed. What more is there?" I asked looking at him confused.

"I don't know man, but you'll think of something. You have to."
