Karkat's POV:

I seemed that I had fell asleep in the front seat because before I knew it mr Egbert was shaking me awake.

"Karkat?" He shook my shoulder gently. "Come on we're here."
I opened my eyes and looked up at the man with a fadora, then I sat up straighter and looked out my window. There stood a beautiful white house, it looked huge! It even had a balcony to the side of it, I looked around more and saw that just about every house in the neighborhood was the same shade of white.

Mr Egbert smiled. "You like it?"
"so far..." I replied quietly.
I have started to unbuckle myself. I got out of the car and retrieved my book bag and mr Egbert held my duffle.

We walked up the the house, and mr Egbert had made an attempt to open the door by unlocking it but failed. "John I swear..."
He opened the door with just the turn of a doorknob.

He led me into an open living room with a greyish brown couch sitting in the middle, and a flat screen TV clung to the wall.
I guess I had a look of astonishment on my face cause mr Egbert grinned.

I heard the stairs creak behind me And I looked up to see a boy with square blue glasses, messy black hair and a ghost busters shirt on. That had to be john.
Before I could even begin to speak, mr Egbert had started.
"John how many times have I told you to lock the door when your home alone?" He said calmly but clearly agitated.

I just stood there awkwardly.

"Sorry dad," the boy spoke. "I guess I forgot, I was exited".
"Well I guess I'll give you the benefit of the doubt." He started. "Anyway, come meet your new step brother!"

John walked down the stairs swiftly and was soon face to face with me, well face to mouth. I was never a tall kid.

"Hi! I'm john! And your name is karkat right?!"
I nodded.
"Awesome! Come on I'll show you to your new room!" He stated and took the duffle from mr Egbert's hands. He began to trot up the stairs.

There stood the hallway, on the left side was a door with a sortment of movie posters on it, mostly con air. Did he seriously like that movie?!
On the opposite side of the hallway was a door with nothing on it, he opened that one a led me in.

There was nothing out of the ordinary in this room. A twin sized bed with grey sheets and blanket stood in the right corner of the room, a dresser directly across from the bed, and a closet by the door.
"Well here's your room!" John gave me my duffle. "I'll leave you alone so you can unpack, I'm right across the hall from you if you need anything!" He said, then walked out and closed the door. I began to scope the room. The color of the walls was an eggshell white and the carpet was a light brown color.

I flopped down on my bed and sighed. For some reason my mind Wondered to sollux. I instantly felt a Panging guilt hit me. I had left him alone in that orphanage. I felt like such an ass. I tried to reassure myself. "He's not alone...he's got rezi..."

"Who's rezi?" A voice startled me causing me to fall from my bed.
"Oh I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to scare you!" The voice said again, I looked up and john had run over to me and helped me up.
"Its..its fine" I let him pulled me up.
"Sorry again...I came in here to tell you that pizza is here."
"Oh...ok thanks." I replied.

He led me down the stairs and into a small kitchen with a table in the middle. But what really surprised me was that there were three cakes sitting  on the counter. I looked over at john, he had a look of bordum on his face.
"Um...is...is this normal?" I asked the boy with glasses.
"Yes it is." He replied sounding pissed off.

We all sat down and had pizza, mr Egbert had two, john had three, wow that boy can eat. And I only had one.
"Is that all your gonna eat karkat?" Asked my newly found father.
"Oh...um...yeah I'm not that hungry." I replied.

"Well alright, you boys better be getting up to bed, you have school tomorrow." Said mr egbert.
"School?" I questioned.
"Oh don't worry karkat. I already bought you a backpack and school supplies, you also have john to show you around."

Me and John headed up to our separate rooms, where I began to put all my clothes in the dresser and closet.
Moments later I heard knock on the door, I thought it would be mr Egbert checking on me, but it was just john.

"Hey karkat!" He said in his usual cheery voice. "How's unpacking coming along?"
"Fine I guess." I mumbled.
"You mind if I help?" He came into my room and helped me unpack.
"So...you never answered my question." He folded up a black short sleeve and put it in a one of the many compartments in the dresser.
"Huh?" I replied confused.
"Who's rezi?" He asked, now I remember him asking.
"Oh...she's uh...she was one of my friends at the orphanage I stayed at...her name is terezi but I call her rezi." I hung up a pair of pants in my closet.
"Did you like it there?" He asked.
"Hell no! It sucked in that orphanage. The beds were hard, the food was gross, we only got a limited warm water for showers."

Soon we were just sitting in my room, talking about our lives. I was laying on the bed and john was sitting on the floor.
I found out he had only a select few friends that he went to school with everyone else just seemed to ignore him or call him rude names. I felt bad for him. I made a vow that I would try to protect my step brother from whatever was going on.
I told him about the car crash, about my previous homes that I never felt at home at and I told him about my annoying roommate sollux.

All was well until mr Egbert came up and told us to go to bed, we hadn't realized it was that late.
So john left my room and I had slipped on a long sleeping shirt with crabs on it, for some reason I really liked crabs, and black sweatpants.

I slipped into my bed, and then I realized something, I have never felt this at home with anyone. I couldn't believe it.

I had a home.

I grined from ear to ear as I fell into a nightmare free sleep.
