#26 Silence

She softly entered
her father's study,
A meek plea to play
with her rang loudly.

Her father, drowned in
routine stress and strain,
Asked her to go away,
for him loud noises were a pain.

Determined now, she rolled up
her little sleeves,
Set out in search of silence,
amongst the roots and leaves.

The huge tree, with his
wise old trunk,
Said silence was his desire to grow, when he was green and full of spunk.

The leaves floated her
towards the temple,
The priest said silence was wishes, not prayers of the people.

He gently took the girl
to her teacher at school,
She said silence was the student's look,
enraptured and delightful.

The girl then went
to the policeman,
Who told her that silence was
in the peaceful patrols he ran.

She went to her brother, who was a reader,
Silence was when he could hear
the voice of the fiction, he told her.

She heard all this, then
she went to her mother,
Asked her where was silence,
so she could present it to her father.

Her mother laughed softly,
breaking the curious silence,
She said it was created not given,
it was a sixth sense.

Eyes brightening,
she eagerly nodded,
Rushed back to her father,
and at the door she prodded.

She engulfed him in an embrace, warm and dear,
Her father was surprised
of her curious behaviour.

"What's the matter", he asked breaking the quietness,
She said "I'm giving you what you asked,"
with all politeness.

"You asked for silence,
here it is,
In my warm embrace,
maybe you could find peace."

Her father, overwhelmed,
looked at his child,
Such wisdom in one so small,
he couldn't help but smile.
