Chapter 11

"We have been trying our best to track this guy down, but he must have known we're onto him of course he covered his tracks well." I explained for what feels like a hundred times to them.

I swear in every meeting, they will always accuse me of not doing my job well and that really irritate the fuck out of me. The urge to grab the butterfly knife I always carry with me is so strong, but Jack has grip my hand really hard under the table knowing I could snap any minute.

I'm not the kind of girl you could just get away from accusing. I hate when people accuse me of shit when they don't even know what the fuck going on.

Jon look at me with narrowed eyes, obviously finally knowing I'm losing my patience with them all.

I don't care that they're one of the few important people, they don't run this firm. So to me, they won't earn my respect til they respect me back.

"I think you should give the girl some break." Jon said loudly, catching everyone's attention. "We have been on this Mission for years. If you don't trust us on this job, maybe you should send your guy and I'll get my girl back to do more important stuff."

An old man with a lot of grey hair glare at him, "You think a group of dangerous people threatening to kill this children is not important enough?"

Jon shrug, "If you keep doubting how we work then yeah. I won't tolerate you for keep criticising how Elaina do her work when she's done very best to keep everything okay." He said nonchalantly, "So again, you can take over this mission and I get Elaina, Jack and Louisa to back down from this."

Okay, I love Jon, hate him sometimes but I'm not about to just back down from a job that I have been working on for at least two years now? Seriously this is wasting my headache and effort.

One of the men nodded, "We give another month. If there's nothing, we'll take over."

I snorted, "If you think you can just take over on the shit that we have been working on for years, you can kiss your ass goodbye." I stated crossing my arms over my chest. "And if you still want to take over, might as well do it now. I'm getting a headache from learning the same shit in there."

He smirk, "I trust that you're doing the best you can, but we're running out of time. We're almost nearing the end of the year and we still have no clue who this people are."

"Actually," Cameron spoke up, "We have a few ideas who they might be, we just need more evidence that our theories are right. If you guys don't pressure us that much, I'm sure we will be able to solve this case in time."

Jack nodded agreeing with him, "Yes we have done our research and now doing the best we can. We just need time."

••••

"I can't believe they're doubting our skills." Louisa grumble as we walk back to the office.

We have already missed half of our classes, so we decided to skip thinking there's no harm done anyway. It will be waste to go to school just for few classes.

I went to my desk and load my computer to get some shit done.

"You alright Elaina? You've been awfully quiet." Cameron ask as he take a seat across from me.

I furrowed my brows, "I feel like we haven't done anything. We have two years, two whole fucking years, why the fuck do we have no single clue?" I ranted as I went to some folder to check it. It's impossible that in those two years, we came up with nothing.

We always have something to begin with, we always known who our suspects was and keep an eye on them. But this is different. Two years later and we're still trying to figure this shit out.

"I think for them to be able to cover their track so damn very well, it should be someone close to us." I said finally looking up to meet their gaze, "Someone who love to hear how our day at work was."

Louisa face pales, while Cameron and Jack look confused and curious at what I'm going to say.

"You think she's the one?"

"When you think about it, Max has never been really interested in our stories. He would hear and ask us questions but never eager." I answered frowning a little bit, "Sure he seem suspicious on the days we decided to follow him around. I did some research on the guy he's been meeting with, it's just some college guy in a Football team. I'm guessing Max has been acting weird is because he is stress out about this game season. It either he's in or he's out."

I open a few folders and transfer it to the big screen to show to everyone, "This guy's name Jacob Henderson. Age 29. Drug dealer since he was 17, drop out of high school at the age of 15. Been a fucked up kid ever since. Spot him around a few couple of times around school grounds. That's why I went on research for him." I went to another profile. "This one is Drake Mason. Age 18. Friends of Vincent. A druggie and smoke weed on a daily basis. He seems like the type to betray his friends. Saw him hung out with Jacob few days ago."

Jack turn to look back at me, "When the fuck did you do all this research?" He ask incredulous. Cameron and Louisa turn to look at me too.

I grinned, "At home when homework assignments bore me." I replied shrugging. "I told you I'm all work, no play."

Jack shake his head, "I'm actually glad I got you as my partner. You seem like the type to play around, until you have work. Then you became like a robot and work 24/7."

I rolled my eyes, "Sometimes you just have to put aside your fun times to get your work done first." I told him and type a few things on the computer before opening the file I'm looking for. "This is the warehouse I've been eyeing on. It's abandoned, but I've always spotted someone coming in and out of it. It's located at the end of the street down our school. It's seem logical for them to work somewhere near yet somewhere not so secluded that can have us suspected."

Cameron whistle, "And they say we don't do our work well." He meet my gaze and grinned. "Have I told you how much I love you lately?"

"Not lately, no." I said snorting.
