Chapter Twenty-Two
                              Still Jack's Point Of View:
"You did what any man in their right mind would do. It's not your fault." Cameron stated as he pat my back.
I snorted and take another sip on my drink. The music is way too loud for my liking, but then again, the club don't just turn down the volume just because someone's depressed.
"Why do I think that I actually stood a chance?" I asked him loudly, my eyes stay on the bottle of my vodka. "It's pathetic really when I keep assuring myself that hey she's not going anywhere."
Cameron groaned, "Dude you wanted to make a move once the mission is over, you just didn't think that her mother will set her up with someone." He said exasperatedly, "Give yourself a break."
"That's the thing I should have make a move sooner!" I exclaimed arms waving around.
No I'm not drunk, just tired of living.
"Hey, how's he holding up?" I heard Louisa said quietly as Cameron and her hug and Cam peck her lips causing me to grunted in annoyance.
"I don't think he's holding up very well." Cameron answered as he wrap an arm around her waist and bring her closer, "You want a drink?"
She shake her head and lean closer to Cameron and attempted to whisper but I heard her clearly even with the loud music, "Elaina's not doing well either. She's been working the whole day, lock herself up in dad's office and when Kyle came over I heard them fighting before he left in anger and slammed the door so hard."
If I'm any other Friend, I would be concerned with how she is right now. But since I hated her and Kyle's gut at this moment, I'm not really bothered with how she's feeling.
"She's okay?" Cameron asked, worried etched his face.
Louisa shrug, "Hard to tell. It's like she's completely shut off and refuse to say anything more than one word." She answered and turn her attention to me.
I narrowed my eyes at her, "Don't say a word." I warned her. She simply rolled her eyes and continue her conversation with Cameron.
I don't think they're officially together yet, but Cameron told me he's getting there. Said something about Louisa not wanting to jump into a relationship at the moment so he told her that he will wait.
But he's lucky enough to know Louisa is not going to settle down with a guy out of sudden. She's taking the relationship in a pace she's comfortable with and when she's ready, she will go to him and Cameron will be there.
Difference with Elaina, I was there but she never is. While I chase after her, she's walking after Kyle.
                              •••
My sister walk in the living room and rolled her eyes when she saw how much of a messed I've made. She crossed her arms, "I could have sworn I cleaned the room few hours ago."
"It got messy again, that's life." I told her shrugging nonchalantly, never taking my eyes off of the tv.
Brooke laugh as she sat on the loveseat, she's actually married for a year but her husband is away on a business trip and she got lonely so she came over my apartment and crash here till her husband's trip is done.
I don't mind her company, I've been staying alone ever since I was 20. Mom and dad kicked me out when I was 19, saying that I need to learn how to be independent. I didn't have anywhere to stay then, but Brooke save my ass and let me stay at her place until I found a place.
                              "Tomorrow's Sunday." Brooke stated.
"Really? I have no idea." I retorted sarcastically, "I could have sworn today is Tuesday."
Brooke scoff, "It's either you go and get her out of this wedding or you'll see her walking down the aisle but instead of being the one at the altar, you stood by the sideline." She told me. "She love you, I know she does."
I chuckle, shaking my head in disbelief and how much I wish that's true.
"Come on Jack, you can't seriously just give up without even trying now can you?"
I snorted, "There's nothing else for me to even try Brooke." I said sighing and close my eyes leaning back on the sofa and look up at the ceiling. "She made her choice, and now I'm gonna teach myself the idea of actually seeing her building a family with someone else."
"So you give up?" I look at her and narrowed my eyes, she rolled her eyes. "You know Jack, personally if mom set me up with someone and I agreed thinking there's nothing for me to fight for. But then the guy I like told me he actually like me too, of course I won't just leave him. Just saying the word sometimes is not enough, the action is. That's what will got me to leave, his actions."
I let myself register what she said.
"So ask yourself this Jack, after you told her that you love her, did you even do anything to prove that what you said is true?"
I look at her, my face void of any emotion as I try to recall if I ever did anything to prove to her that I love her. I furrowed my brows, "Why are you telling me this only now?"
Brooke smile, "Because you're my brother and I want what's best for you. Plus she knows how to kick your ass if you fucked up." She answered. "Besides, someone need to talk some senses into you. If it's not gonna be me, then who else?"
                              ***
