Chapter Sixteen
I grumble under my breath as I tried to zip up my damn dress. It's our engagement party and I'm totally not looking forward to it. I just can't wait for it to end already.
"You look beautiful honey."
I look up from the demon zipper and look at my door where Mom stood staring at me. I scowl, "I don't look beautiful." I grumble as I let my attention back on the zipper. "This shit stuck."
"If you were to be alittle bit gentle," Mom said rolling her eyes and take over helping me zip up. "There, just a little bit of patience and you're good to go. See?"
I rolled my eyes, scoff, "Okay Mother. Are we leaving now?"
Mom looks over at the clock by my bedside table and groaned loudly, "Your brother be ready when I get to his room." She grumble and stomp out of my room and across the hall to get to Damien's room.
I grabbed my clutch and wear the black stiletto. I'm lucky if I'll be able to walk and train tomorrow morning.
"You don't look happy for someone that's engaged." I heard Louisa commented as she watched me walk down the stairs.
I scoff, "Need I remind you that I didn't want this at the first place?" I whispered harshly at her, not wanting Mom to hear what I said. She's too excited with the idea of me getting married, I can't even bail.
"And need I remind you that you could have said no at the first place?" She said back folding her arms, "You can tell her now you know."
I frowned, "I can't do that to Mom Lou." I replied. "Do you not see how happy she was when she saw me with the ring? That was the very first time I saw her so genuinely happy ever since-" I cut myself off when I couldn't find the strength to complete the sentence.
Her hard eyes softened, "But you don't like the guy Elaina. I don't want you to sacrifice your happiness just for someone else's." she said softly.
"What are you talking about?"
"I know you like Jack." She answered, rolling her eyes. "I'm not stupid. Everytime he walks in the room, your eyes glued to him and follow his every movement. You get this giddy look when he introduced you as his girlfriend, and then at times you turn into those psycho jealous girlfriend."
"I do not!" I exclaimed and smack her arm, "That's just offensive."
She smile, "So you do like him?"
I shrug, "For quite some time now, yeah." I muttered and look up the stairs to make sure Mom won't hear anything. "I know he likes me too."
"Then why did you say yes?"
I heard Mom and Damien voice coming down the hallway and I look at Louisa, "I won't say anything about this wedding until Jack admit himself that he has feelings for me. It's one thing that I have feelings for him, but it's the other when he denies his feelings for me."
Louisa open her mouth to argue when Mom came beside her, smiling widely at us. "Ready to go?"
"Yes Mom, lets get this over with." I said as cheerfully as I can.
Unlike Damien, Mom didn't suspect anything. Heck she didn't even feel the tension building up. Damien look at me and raise his brows, I shook my head and follow Mom out.
"Mom, I love you." I called out.
She look back at me, "I know sweetpea. I love you too."

"We have school later in the morning, why are we still here?" I whisper to Mom so only she could hear me, but with all the music and people chatting around us, I doubt they even listening.
Mom look at me with flat look, "Are you seriously asking me that?" She asked. "You're engaged. And why are you not with Kyle?"
I rolled my eyes, "He's over there with his friends. I just needed to talk to you about this." I told her. "I need to go to school and if you're thinking of me skipping you got it wrong, people are getting suspicious why the nerd didn't go to school for quite some time now Mother."
Mom merely waved her hand at me and leave me to talk with one of my aunt. I groaned and turn around and jump when I almost knock on Jack who suddenly stood behind me.
"My god Jack!" I smack his arm and scowl, "Stop creeping on me like this."
He smirk, "You don't look thrill to be here." He stated and raise his brows. "But I'm starting to see you smile."
My smile vanish and I scowl, "I don't like you."
"Sure you don't." He replied with that stupid grin on his face that did wild weird things to my heart.
I rolled my eyes, he laugh and pull me in for a hug. "Sorry for behaving so weirdly lately." He whispered softly. His arms around me tightened and he sigh.
Someone cleared their throat which cause Jack to pull away from me, but he keep one arm around my waist holding me close to him. Kyle stood there with brow raise as he stare at us.
"I was looking for you," Kyle stated, his eyes stayed on Jack's arm that is around me. "I wanted you to meet some of my friends."
"I'm Jack." He held his hand out to Kyle who reluctantly shake his head nodding his head, "I'm Elaina's partner at work, if you were wondering."
Kyle furrowed his brows, "So I've heard. You're also one of her very closest friend."
"That I am."
Kyle look at me and raise his brows, I rolled my eyes and went over to him and his arms automatically wrap around my waist bringing me closer.
"You just got here then?" Kyle asked Jack who merely shrug.
"Got held up at the office." He said then his eyes glance at me, "It's nothing important don't worry."
I nod my head and look up at Kyle, "You said you wanted to introduce me to your friends? Wanna go now? Jack and I can catch up later." I told him and look back at Jack who nod his head and shrug before walking away and talk to some of the friends he know, Cameron is here too anyway.
I look back at Kyle only to see him looking at me with a small smile on his face, "Okay but I must warned you my friends are really loud and obnoxious."
"Nothing I can handle." I shrug.
He smirk at me, "Okay then come this way ma'am."
I narrowed my eyes at him but nonetheless let him guide me to wherever his friends are.
